A large attendance was present from surrounding vicinities in­ cluding Seaside, St. Helens and W ashington, the number being about fifty. Refreshments were served and the bride received many wonderful gifts. Those at­ tending from .Vernonia were the bride’s mother, Mrs. Maud New, Mrs. Leona Aldrich and Dick, Miss Virginia Melis, Mrs. Zelma Wall and sons Larry and Lynn, Mrs. Nellie Thacker, Mrs. Lester Gal­ loway and Tamara, Mrs. Ruby Newton and Darlene, Miss Dolores Johnson and Mrs. Laura Thacker. The young couple is at home for the present in the apartment over the Mist store. Mrs. Louis Laramore’s 4-H club was hostess at a mothers tea for the members mothers a few days ago and the mothers pre- sent were Mrs. Steers, Mrs. Tapp, Mrs. Michener and Mrs. Siebert. Mrs. Casswell was also present for the occasion. The girls brought their work which had beep completed. They are trying to finish their pro­ jects to be exhibited at the fair later this month. The principal discussions at this meeting centered around the choice of a Benediction cope and veil which the Society will purchase in the near future. During a discussion on “to or not to” do more custom quilt­ ing, Mrs. Kenneth Anderson pre­ sented two beautiful quilts pieced and owned by Mrs. Laird. No decision as to quilting was reached. More than the usual number of members were present and a very satisfactory sum was collected in dues. Mrs. Schmidt, assisted by Mrs. Vanderzanden, served a delicious lunch. They have been visit­ ing friends and relatives here for three months. Mrs. S. D. Martin of Oakland, California is visiting Mrs. M. B. Willard for two weeks. Mrs. Willard and her sister and Mrs. Louis Laramore and children left Tuesday for Spokane to visit re­ latives. Mrs. Norris Soden is leaving for Portland today to remain until tomorrow evening. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Hurd of Portland, called to see their cou­ sins, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Junken. They came Friday and remained until Sunday. Mrs. B. S. Whitaker, mother of Mrs. A. H. Landers, is visiting from Portland, She came Sunday and plans to spend a week or more with her daughter and family in Vernonia. Wm. Zimmerman flew home from Kodiak, Alaska arriving in Portland, Monday about 15 hours for the trip with about six stop­ overs and enjoying the trip very much. Andy Helton, his partner on the trip, stayed for the re­ mainder of the season which will be about the 15th of August. Reunion Held; Mill Rests Mon MIST — A reunion of the Salmi family at Marshland was held there Tuesday evening, A daughter and husband from New i York city is here visiting and the affair was held before they returned home. Mrs. Larry Brady and children and her mother, Mrs. Don Hall, came over from Glenoma, Wash­ ington Friday to attend the bridal shower given for Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Holce. Mrs. Lloyd Lynch and two daughters were here from Scap­ poose Friday for the shower. Mrs. Ashley entertained the 4- H club last Friday afternoon at the Mist gym. The Wikstrom mill rested Mon­ day night on account of the sawyer being unable to return to work due to a car breakdown in Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jones are rejoycing over the arrival of an 814 pound girl at the hospital in Portland last week. The Jones live in Birkenfeld. C. Christensen, president of the Hillsboro bank. Herbert A. Rasmussen, Jr., formerly assistant cashier of The Commercial National Bank of Hillsboro has been elected trust officer and will be in charge of the trust department, Christensen stated. The Commercial Bank of Hills­ boro Has made a very satisfactory growth during the past ten years. From an institution with less than 2 million in resources it now claims more than 12 millions and now has affiliate banks at Tilla­ mook, Banks and Newberg and these banks now have branches at Wheeler, Vernonia and St. Paul respectively, with total resources of 22 million dollars. Christensen stated that this new service fills a long felt need for the Commercial Group of Banks, affording a more complete banking service. All Oregon driver’s licenses bearing the serial numbers 5R- 462001 to 5R495000 must be re- newed by Tuesday, August 31st under the provisions of the re­ vised license renewal system adopted at the last session of the state legislature. All numbers be­ low 5R462001 are now void. Licenses are expiring in blocks of 33,000 each month according to the “5R" serial number on the face of each card.
