LET'S BE SOCIABLE 1st Pagoda Party Held; Society to Meet Fri. Rebekahs Select Officers for Term The Pagoda in the Christian church yard hps been enclosed and redecorated to be used as a party room for church activities. The Junior church crowd held the first party there last Tuesday under the leadership of Martha Wells. It was reported to be a huge success with a baseball game for the older children, games for the smaller children and all the hot dogs and pop that could be consumed. The regular meeting of the Women’s Missionary Society will be held at Mrs. Olivia Woods home on Friday evening. The new officers for the coming year will be installed. Next Sunday is children’s day with a special program during the Sunday school hour. • At the regular meeting of Mt. Heart Rebekah Lodge No. 243, the following officers were elected for the ensuing term: N.G., Pauline McKee; V.G., Beryl Cline; sec retary, Opal Counts; treasurer, Louise Hamnett. Plans were dis cussed and made for attending the District convention to be held June 10 at St. Helens. Silvia Turner and Alice Gwin gave a very interesting report on the Grand Lodge session held in Eugene, May 16 to 20, and which they attended as delegates. Also attending as a delegate was Mrs. Juanita Edwards of Cloverdale. • Convention Attended Mrs. Kent Bauersfeld, president of the Women’s Golf club has appointed Mrs. Harry King and Mrs. Ben Brickel to be in carge of arrangements for future club activities. Lady golfers are asked to turn in their scores for 36 holes, or at least 18, by June in order to establish handicaps. Maxine Hartwick, Alice George. Marilyn Graves and Aileen John son, accompanied by Frances Mul lins were at John Day from May 27 to 30 where they attended the Rainbow convention. Miss Hartwick was appointed grand immortality at the session. MILL MARKET AND LOCKERS Mrs. Carmichael Hostess To Friendship Club The Friendship Circle met at the home of Mrs. Carmichael Tuesday afternoon. May 18. There were seven club members pre sent. There were several other guests present to enjoy a Stanley party given by the hostess. The next meeting will be held at Mrs. Carmichael’s on June 17. • Surprise Shower Is Event of Thursday A surprise stork shower was held Thursday for Mrs. Lester Shafer at the home of her mother, Mrs. Robert Hodson. The guests were Mrs. May Kreiger and her daughter, Evelyn, Mrs. Gladys Johnson, Mrs. Dorothy Kentz, Mrs. Dale Johnson, Iva Gillham, Vivian Counts, Gaynell Reed, Mrs. Ever ett Crabtree, Mrs. Tom Wolf, Mrs. Ruth Sullivan and daughter, Jen- ena, Mrs. Velva Hodson and baby son, and Betty Hodson. • New Officers Preside At Society Meeting The W.S.W.S. met at the Evan gelical U. B. church Wednesday, May 26 with 18 members and two visitors present. The new officers presided at the business meeting. They are: president, Louise Thomas; vice- president, Ella Olinger; secretary, Margaret Hartzell and treasurer, Florence Kirkbride. It was voted that the meeting day be changed from the fourth Wednesday to the first Wednesday of each month. The June meeting will be held the fourth Wednesday, but starting in July the meeting day will be the first Wednesday. The church circles reported on the missionary work they are doing. P.E.O. To Meet The next meeting of the P.E.O. Sisterhood will be held Tuesday, June 8 at the home of Mrs. Ben Brickel. Mrs. W. G. Heath will be in charge of the program. Refreshments Served The Pythian Sisters served re freshments to friends and the Knights and their wives at the I.O.O.F. hall after the high school graduation last Wednesday even ing. Among the out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gleeson of Portland, and Mrs.JPatterson, a former Matron of the Pythian home at Vancouver. • Pioneer Day Event Due Soon MIST—Pioneer residents of the valley are reminded of the Pioneer day meeting to be held in two weeks at Birkenfeld when the an nual get-together is scheduled to take place. She attended Pat’s grad uation Wednesday evening. Mrs. Emil Messing who has always baked a birthday cake for Mrs. Steele the last 15 years, called on her Tuesday and brought her a cake. Mrs. Ratkie also visited her. Mrs. Trail and son, Bill, of Tacoma, Washington visited at the W. D. Steele home last Friday. Mrs. W. D. Steele entertained a couple of missionairies last Thurs day. It was also a birthday party for Mrs. Steele. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hawkins of Vernonia and Mr. and Mrs. John Kudrna of Portland visited at the Glen Hawkins home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Steele have moved to Sweet Home. Mr. and Mrs. Farnstrom of Vancouver, Mr. and Mrs. L .A. Billings and son, Allen, of Port land,’Mr. and Mrs. W^yne Schmick and Mrs. Newby and baby daugh ter of Portland visited at the W. D. Steele home over the week Just In!
