Some activity for this purpose will be carried out during the sum­ mer months. For the evening’s program, Mrs. Messing reviewed portions of the book, “Cities of America,” by George Sessions Perry. Interest­ ing sketches were given of Seattle Boston, Portland, Me., New Or­ leans, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City Which gave the characteristics of each place and their historical background. The hostess served delicious refreshments during the social hour. The final meeting of the year will be held June 3 at the new home of Mrs. Fletcher. Class of 1932 Reunites For Second Time New officers for Vernonia Lodge, I.O.O.F., were elected at the Tuesday evening meeting to serve for the next six-month term and the two delegates to the grand lodge made their report to the members. Named to office were: Noble Grand, Calvin Davis; Vice-grand, Art Davis; Secretary, Bill Shafer and Treasurer, Louis Schroeder. Louis Schroeder and Dwight Strong, delegates to the grand lodge meeting May 19, 20 and 21, made their report. The initiatory degree for Nor­ man Nieman will be conducted at the lodge's meeting next Tuesday evening. The second class reunion of the Vernonia high school was held again this year at the Legion hall Saturday, May 15 at 8 o'clock. The hall was decorated with apple blossoms, dog wood and ferns, the main attraction being the “Welcome Class of 1932” sign made in class colors by Etna Spencer Hackney, one of the class members. The evening was spent in visit­ ing and dancing. A meeting was held and it was voted upon to hold this reunion for the next five years. Refreshments were served at a late hour with the following pre­ sept. , • District Convention Attended at Wheeler The district convention of the Pythian Sisters was held at Wheeler, Oregon, Monday, May 24. The Sisters attending from Ver­ nonia were: Isabel Culbertson, Lesta Garner, Mary Sawyer, Tres- sie Michener, Grace Laramore, June Willis, Marie Shafer, Hazel Bergerson, Helen Fuller, Marie Laschinger, Edith McFarland, Het­ tie Peterson and Ethel Landers. Everyone enjoyed the interest­ ing session of the convention as well as the lovely banquet and entertainment. The 1949 convention will be held in McMinnville, Oregon. • Surprise Dinner Party Honors 40th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bond and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Makinster en­ tertained at a surprise dinner party at the Bond home on Weed avenue a few day ago in honor of the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Cockrell. A lovely wedding cake and many nice presents were received and a nice evening was spent in visiting and lookipg at pictures. Mr. and Mrs. Cockrell have two married daughters in Idaho and one married son living at Tacoma, Washington. They also have 10 grandchildren.
