LET’S BE SOCIABLE Mrfs. Junken Hostess To Pollyanna Circle Nineteen ladies attended the meeting Wednesday afternoon of the Pollyanna Circle of the Evan gelical U. B. church at the home Mrs. Russell Junken on Rose Ave. An interesting devotional pro gram was presented by Mrs. Claude Knapp. 1 A LARGE STOCK AND BARGAINS AVAILABLE NOW AT FOWLER'S New & Used Sltre During the business session, plans were completed for the spring bazaar and food sale to be held next Saturday, May 1, at Sundland Electric shop. A large assortment of beautiful pillow slips and aprons were turned in for this. During the social hour, the hostess served delightful refresh ments. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Norris Soden on May 19. • F. L. Girls Meet The F. L. Girls met at the home of Opal Counts on Rose Ave., April 15. Heath’s Service Station At the Mile Brige, Riverview Phone 5711 Pinochle Party at Country Club Planned An event that is dated to oc cur Saturday May 1 is a pinochle party at the Vernonia Country club. Arrangements for the af fair are taking shape to provide those present that night a plea sant time. Tickets are being sold for the party which is open both to members of the club and their guests. • Club Entertained Mrs. C. L. Anderson was hostess last Thursday afternoon to the O-A bridge club. High score for the afternoon was held by Mrs. Ben Brickel and second high by Mrs. R. D. Eby. • Rhubarb Buried Beneath Snowfall Early in Week; Death Comes Suddenly MIST — Mrs. Lew Choate has been quite ill with pneumonia but is able to get a round a little now. Last week we were picking rhu barb and this morning it was buried in snow. Such freakish weather. We were very sorry to learn of the untimely passing of the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. How ard Larson of Birkenfeld. Ray Hovey of Clatskanie passed away quite suddenly last week leaving his young wife and three small children. Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Jones have gone to Vernonia. He went to work there. Mrs. Everett Woods from Ver nonia (Ella Wright) and her sis ter, Abby, from Dallas were here last week end painting and paper ing the Mollie Wright place which is for sale. Another sister, Car rie, is expected to arrive shortly from San Francisco, California. The girls will put the place in shape for the sale. We were glad to see these old friends, school mates of our children. Mrs. Joe Roeser was a Clats kanie visitor Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Baillett and Mrs. L. P. Wikstrom made a trip to Chehalis Monday. The Wikstrom mill had a break down Monday so many of the men got the greater part of the day off. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bridgers were down from Vernonia Wednesday seeing old acquaintances. They were guests of the I. E. Knowles a while during the day. Mr. Bridgers had had a couple of sick spells recently. W'e hope he will feel better soon. We understand the Lloyd Gar- lacks will soon move to what was formerly the Oliver Burres farm. It is said they bought the place. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Linch from Scappoose and Mrs. Maud Rodgers from Seaside were recent guests of their sister and daughters family. I* Brother s Death Result of Illness TREHARNE — Mr. and Mrs. Lester Fletcher and family spent the week end at the R. J. Whit- mire home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reynolds returned to their home at Canby, California• after spending several weeks here with relatives. Mrs. Curtis Pierson was called to Portland Sunday by the death of her brother, Frank Stevens. He had been ill for several years with heart trouble. Mrs. Magdalene Weaver was the honor guest at a shower held at her home last Thursday. Cof fee cake, sandwiches and jello were served. 'She received many nice gifts. Those present were: Mrs. Leon Odam, Mrs. Florence Reynolds, Mrs. Thelma Weaver and children, Mrs. Pauline Tis dale, Mrs. Virginia Weaver and daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Reynolds and son, Mrs. Midge Reynolds, Mr. Anna Wilson, Mrs. Mae Wienecke, Mrs. Exie Weaver, Mrs. Dorothy Odam and son, Mrs. Floy Odam and daughter, Mrs. Ruth Hult and son, Mrs. Cassie Riley rnd the honor guest Mrs. Weaver THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, OREGON THURSDAY, APR. 29, 1948 8 Mr. and Mrs. Dave Reynolds and family of SL Helens and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Reynolds and sons were visitors at the Albert Reynolds home Sunday. Mrs. Claude McCool spent the week end in Portland. and children. Those sending gifts were Mrs. Rosie Weaver, Mrs. Mary Dripp and Mrs. Flora Whit mire. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Walker spent Wednesday at the Harry Wilson home.
