2 THURSDAY, APR. 29, 1948 THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, OREGON TOPICS OF THE TOWN Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Cox, resi dents of the O-A hill, Vernonia were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Davis last Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Peck of Maupin with their two sons, Paul Jr., and Danny, visited Mrs. Pecks sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and family over Saturday and fjunday of last week. Mr. Miller, having a boat, the men went fishing on Willam ette slough Sunday morning. No luck was reported. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Rice of Corvallis, former Vernonia res idents, were here visiting rela tives and friends for a few days last week. Mrs. Rice had been sick, but was better upon leaving for home. Spring bazaar and food sale. Saturday, May 1 at Sundland Electric shop. Pollyanna Circle, E. U. B. Church. Two Vernonia men, John Sie- delman and George Spiesschaert, were winners of first and third respectively in a wild cow milk ing ebntest staged by Western Riders at the last indoor ama- teur rodeo and horse show near Gresham, The milking contest was staged lakt Saturday. Davis of Portland spent last week end at Ocean Park, Washington, where they dug clams. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Shipman and son, Pete, were away from here from Friday to Sunday of last week end on a trip that took them to Spokane. While there they saw Mr. Shipman’s mother who is ill. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bateman, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hawkins and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hartman were at Long Beach, Washington to spend the past week end. They spent considerable time digging clams. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cason and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nance and Karen attended the wedding of Mrs. Cason’s niece, Mary Spencer, at Gresham Saturday. Spring bazaar and food sale. W. Livengood. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kivett a sister of Mr. Baysinger, and son, Ralph, visited the Liven- goods over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Toivo Hill are leaving Vernonia Thursday to go back to their former home in Rock, Michigan.) ' 18tlc Darlene Morgan has gone back to the Shrine hospital again for a major operation and expects to remain there for some time so would like to hear from her good friends. The address is Shrine Hospital, Portland 13, Oregon. Mrs. Lloyd Thomas underwent a major operation in Forest Grove a week ago last Monday. She returned to Forest Grove for a check tip last Thursday and found that she is getting along fine. Vernonia Grange Children to Help With Ritual Work at State Meeting KEASEY — Mrs. Alice Buckley, juvenile Grange matron, and her assistant, Edith McFarland, met with the state juvenile Prange matron at the Yankton Grange hall Saturday. The children of the Vernonia Grange are to assist in the ritualistic work of the Oregon State Grange when it meets in Astoria this year. People are progressive up on Rock creek, Vern Dusenberry bought a new cat. Herb Counts has a new combine harvester and the Conklins a new goat milking machine. The Robert Hodgson family has moved into the Vic Bergerson They lived up Keasey place, way a few years ago, must have found it a pretty good location after all. Mrs. Julia Boeck is in California visiting her sister. Mr. and Mrs. Duke Lloyd and their three daughters spent the week end in Portland with Mr. Lloyds father and mother. Mrs. Alta Landers says she didn’t like living in Washington, so she came home sooner than she expected and is staying with her daughter, Flora Lloyd. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Westerberg of Garibaldi visited Mrs. Wester- berg’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. DeVaney and family last week Mrs. Bud Keaton and daughtei, Jacqueline, of Roseburg spent, a week with Mrs. Keaton’s folks, Mr. and Mrs. H. L.. Woodruff, Also Mr. an! Mrs. Cleon Wood- ruff and son Ronnie of Portland spent the week end with Alice Mills and the Woodruffs. Steer3, H S. Divine, Bessie Benson, Mario Shafer, Donald Cameron and the hostess. Mrs. W.ayne Hill has returned to Vernonia from a trip to Michigan bringing her son, Richard Alger. The Hills live on Qapitol Hill.
