CLUB TEAM WINS SPORT TOPICS è ROY FRANK, Sporte Editor P'KROSE WINS ON TWO UN EARNED RUNS The Glisan Lumber company golf team from Portland loat to the Vernonia Country club 36% to 29% Sunday in a match that had been arranged by Jack An derson. Best score for the day was held by Ed Watson with 73. J he dropped the ball at the plate. Both runs in this game last Tues day afternoon against the Log gers were unearned. This game made the third straight in which Vernonia has lost in the last stanza. Jack Frank pitched his first game of the season but was re lieved by Williams in the seventh. However, the loss is chalked up against Frank because the scor ing man was on base when Wil liams took over. The Logger half of the game, play by play was: 1st Inning: Stuve grounded out to the pitch er; Frank struck out; Williams grounded out to the first baseman. No runs, no hits. 2nd Inning: Schaumberg struck out; Night wine struck out; Cline grounded out to the pitcher. No runs, no hits. 3rd Inning: K. Milld.- walked; Wantland sacrificed Miller to second; Wil coxon struck out; Stuve struck out. The Vernonia Loggers, under the coaching of Jake Hergert, played a very close game Thurs day afternoon, April 15, in Scap poose, but came out on the short end, losing to the Indians, 6-5. The score was tied 5 al! until the Indian half of the seventh inning when Allen, banged out the winning hit, shoving an Indian across the plate. The Loggers’ side of the game was. 1st Inning: Stuve grounded out to the sec ond baseman, Engstrom; Want land struck out; Frank struck out. No runs, no hits. 2nd Inning: Williams was hit by a pitched ball; Nightwine struck out; Schaumberg reached first on an error by Allen, shortstop, who overthrew first, Williams going to third and Schaumberg to sec ond; Kay Miller flied out to the catcher, Brown; Cline singled to center field, scoring Williams and Schaumberg; Fredrickson struck baseman; Williams got a hard hit to left field, which should have gone over the bank and probably a home run, but the ball hit a puddle of water and stopped, so Williams got a two-base hit; Schaumberg hit to the third base man who fumbled the ball, and Williams thought he could make it to third, but was thrown out; Schaumberg advanced to second; Nightwine flied out to the second baseman. No runs, 1 hit. 5th Inning: Cline struck out; K. Miller flied out to the second baseman; Want land flied out to the first base man. No runs, no hits. 6th Inning: Wilcoxen grounded out to the pitcher; Stuve got a hit to right field, the ball rolling through the right fielder’s legs without touching it, and Stuve rolled on to third base; Frank got an in field single to third base, scoring Stuve; Williams flied out to the pitcher; Schaumberg flied out to the right fielder. Next Tuesday, Vernonia will play host to the Banks Braves on the local field, and another home game next Thursday, April 29 is scheduled with the Clats kanie Tigers.
