The trip was in line with a county-wide visiting schedule of subordinate Granges in an effort to bring them closer together. Mr. Herrin, superinten­ dent, and Mrs. Cason, superinten­ dent of the Evangelical U. B. Sun­ day school exchanged places Sun­ day morning. The change was a pleasant surprise for all. The regular church night sup­ per on Wednesday was enjoyed by* a large group. The hostesses were Mrs. R. A. Simmons and Mrs. Blanche Millis. Mrs. Olivia Wood baked a huge birthday cake, one of the new Betty Crocker cakes.* It was delicious. Mrs. Wood was hostess on Mon­ day afternoon to a group of the church ladies who gathered at her home to surprise Mrs. Grace Peachey on her birthday. She was presented with a shower of handkerchiefs. Wednesday was the ladies reg­ ular Red Cross sewing day at the church parlors. The Ninety and Nine men will hold their regular meeting Friday n:ght at the church. • The V. F. W. Auxiliary initia­ ted three new members at the regular meeting Wednesday, April 7. They were: Irene Wildt, Margaret Brunsman and Patricia McMullen. A large group from the Ver­ nonia Post and Auxiliary went to Clatskanie Sunday for installation along with other posts and aux­ iliaries of this district. During the meeting a beautiful blanket was presented to the Ver­ nonia Auxiliary's outgoing presi­ dent, Eva Poynter, in appreciation of her hard work in building up the Auxiliary . Much credit for the large membership is due to “Little Eva.” Another outgoing officer who has given a great deal of her time is Margaret Walrath. She was presented a past treasurer's pin for ’three continuous years of service. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, April 21, and a good turnout is asked to give the new president, Bessie Wells, a send- off. • Pollyanna Circle to Meet Next Wednesday Foreign Missionary Group Elects for Year The Pollyanna Circle of the Evangelical U. B. church will meet next Wednesday, April 21, at the home of Margaret Junken on Rose Avenue. Members are asked to bring completed aprons and pillow cases for the sale to be held May 1 at the Sundland Electric shop. • Only one battleship is presently assigned to the Atlantic and one to the Pacific Fleet, but there are seven large carriers in the Atlan­ tic and five in the Pacific Fleets. The women of the foreign mis­ sionary society of the Nazarene church met at the home of Mrs. Elgus Frank, O-A hill, for their annual meeting and election of officers for the coming year. Rev. H. L. Russell was in charge of the annual meeting. Officers for the year are as follows: President, Mrs. Gilbert Brown; 1st vice-president, Mrs. Foster Wanamaker; 2nd vice-president, Mrs. H. L.
