Newbry. In pointing out the purpose of the plan, he cited a recent case in which a warning letter was is sued to a driver whose record showed numerous accidents and violations, both here and in neigh boring states. He was notified that his license would be suspended if he should be found responsible for any similar trouble in the future. Within a few weeks of the warning, the driver was kil led in a traffic accident. Under the program, drivers whose record shows three viola tions or accidents in any 12-month period are sent a warning letter. Their records are placed in a special file and a future accident or violation will call for investi gation and possible suspension where the difficulty could have been avoided by better driving. Ira Jones, Mist Rt.__________________________ 13t3 Oregon’s World War II veterans are borrowing on the state veter ans’ farm and home loan at the rate of about a million dollars every three months and the agency handling this rapidly growing business is hard pressed to keep ahead of the increasing demand. Loan*officials said the depart ment of veterans’ affairs, which administers the act, has loaned more than $3,500,000 in the two and a half years since the start of operations. Nearly three millions of this amount were loaned in the past year alone, and the rapid growth of the department’s bus iness, according to Loan Officer A. J. Crose, is due mainly to the fact that the state legislature in 1947 liberalized the loan act to permit veterans to borrow up to $6,000 to buy homes and farms, and streamlined the act to permit speedy processing of applica tions. Starting in 1948, loans per month ran well over $300,000 while for March alone the figure exceed ed $500,000. Veterans who were Oregon res idents before entering service in World War II are eligible to apply. They may borrow up to 75 per cent of the appraised value of the home or farm being purchased, to a maximum of $6,000. Interest on the loan is at four per cent. Under today's conditions, the average time allowed to repay is about 12 years. THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, OREGON Free Delivery ' îï ' sî &O' ï ©^ AND F1BGÜION STSTBM IMPLEMENTI
