The game will begin at 3 o’clock on the diamond behind the Wash ington grade school. This game was previously scheduled to be played in Seaside but because the Gull’s field was not ready, it was decided to play on the local diamond. Next Tuesday, April 13, the St. Helens Lions are billed to 'appear on the Vernonia field. This game is also to begin at 3 p.m. The game scheduled for last Tuesday, April 6, in Clatskanie was called off because of rain. • Lower Columbia league teams will meet a new league opponent in the future. Decision to permit entry of Sherwood into the group was made Monday evening at Scappoose when the County Schoolmasters voted admission to the Bulldogs. The addition ot the school to this league will in crease to seven the number of con tenders in athletic events. Other shools already represented are: Seaside, Rainier, Clatskanie, Vernonia, St. Helens and Scap poose. Attending the meeting from here were Paul Gordon, grade school superintendent, Jake Her gert, high school athletic head. Rearrange Store GAME TODAY Many Dislike Years Weather KEASEY — Newcomers to this region are disgusted with this year’s weather, but then so are the oldtimers. Donald DeWitt suffered a pain ful hand injury last week, which caused him to lose several days work. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Brown called on Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Fox at the Foxes Boys Camp Sunday. The Peters family and Andy Brimmer spent Sunday afternoon with the Gillhams. Mrs. Doc DeVaney is reported to be quite ill at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schray of Portland visited at the Conklin ranch Sunday. They are looking for a suitable farm in this vicinity on which to settle. A sister of J. P. McFarland, Mrs. Frank Smith, of Portland, was buried Tuesday. Edith Mc Farland has been helping care tor her during her recent illness. Visitors at the Buckley ranch this past week were Mrs. Buckley’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Rhea, of Hillsboro, Mr. Buckleys brothers, James Buckley, and children, Richard and Shirley, and Luarel Arne all of’Yakima, Wash ington and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hays and children of Portland. April 7, 1948 RIVERVIEW — Mr. and Mrs. Hank Hudson made a trip to Port land Sunday to see Alf Carlson baptized into the Latter Day Saint church. Nate Huntley of Carlton visited at the Louis Huntley home Sunday. Mrs. L. L. Wells visited her mother, Mrs. Roy E. Beck, and also Mr. Wells in Portland last week. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Christenson of Sweet Home visited at the W. D. Steele home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Gower, Sr., of Pasco, Washington arrived at the Walter Moore home Thursday to visit for awhile. Mrs. Gower is Mr. Moore’s sister. Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Davis of Vancouver, Washington, also Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pike and daughters, Tona and Sandra, of Spokane, Washington visited at the T. F. Hillyer home Sunday. Elmer Combs, son of Mrs. Hill- yer, of Portland, who has been confined in the hospital since De cember 20 with third degree burns, is home now and gaining his health rapidly. Dear Sir: What do you think of the mas termind military set-up in Berlin at the present time? If we had a pair of recalcitrant youngsters who couldn’t find ways and means to get along better with each other we would certainly tan their back sides. About all the army brass, both Russian and American, seem to be able to accomplish is to fur nish fuel for Mr. Truman’s foreign relation activities and to pull us a little closer to war. Have we forgotten so quickly the results of the last one? Which in turn brings us around to the new military training act. Has it ever occured to you that we could do each and every one of the following enumerated things with the $3,000,000,000 per year to be appropiated. This is all in addition to the present staggering military establishment which is spending $27,200,000 PER DAY— every day—all year long. 1. Probably the most important of all. Wirtz learned Monday of the arrival of a new grandson at the home ot their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Kemper. The babe weighed 5 pounds 5 ounces and will be named Richard.
