Pearl Becker ---- •-----•---- Natal Grange members visited Chapman Grange on Saturday evening, March 27th, according to the regular visitation schedule, with the visiting Grange providing the Lecturer’s program for the evening. Scappoose and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Becker of Warren Grange. Sewing contests were discussed, as was the White Satin sugar can ning sugar contest, an additional inducement being the offer by this Bemardin Co. to give a table model radio to the Grange of each Pomona district having th» largest number of entries sealed with Bernardin lids. Progress made in the commun-, ity service contest include the improvement of Natal Grange hall and grounds, and a similiar pro ject by Marshland Grange. War ren Grange reports progress on the first project undertaken, which is a marker along the highway north of Scappoose in commemora tion of the burial of Captain Thom as McKay,, also the asembling of any material which may be found in early histories relating to Mr. McKay’s life. As far as is known, no such record has ever been made, so it will be neces sary to study many books and documents. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Watts of Scappoose, and Mrs. Pearl Becker of Warren are at present working on this project, and any help which may be offered by those who have information along this line will be apreciated. It is also hoped to mark perman ently Mr. McKay’s actual burial place with a suitable marker. Jean and Jack Odam, Loren Dodge, Dale Johnson and Walt Larson went smelt fishing in the Sandy Wednesday evening. Mr. and ;Mrs. Albin Bergstrom made a trip to Portland Wednes day. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reynolds are up from Canby, California for a few days visiting with relatives.. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Richards went to Portland Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Tisdale were in Hillsboro Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Reynolds visited with his brothers, Dave and Eurie, at St. Helens Sunday. Mrs. Flora Whitmire is on the sick list this week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whitmire were over from Castle Rock Sun day hnd Monday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rome Whit mire. Sergeant and Mrs. Livengood and Leeann were week end visitors at the Art Odam home. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kells went smelt fishing in the Sandy last Thursday evening. Jerry McCool was home over the week end. He is working in Portland. • MIST—Margie Wikstrom spent a few days last? week in Vernonia with her girl friend. Mrs. Bellingham and Mrs. Ben nett were village visitors last Tuesday from Birkenfeld and the Bennett Apiaries. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sundland were in Portland Monday on business. Mrs. J. 0. Libel is handicapped for the present with leg trouble. Austin Corll ploughed for Clar ence Brown last week, for a gar den spot. • Fall From Horse Causes Injury MIST — Earl Olson and son, Warren, are visiting their relatives the Austin Dowlings this week. The Olsons are from Tacoma. Miss Miriam Corll had the mis fortune to be thrown from a horse she was riding Sunday, a week ago, resulting in an injured leg. She was absent from her work at the store here a couple of days. Freddie Busch is building a new home down on the Busch estate. He, with his family, have been living in California. Mrs. Chet Alexander returned from the hospital and spent a few days with her mother, Mrs. Know les, before going home to Ver nonia. • Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Wikstrom were Portland visitors Monday. Mrs. Helen Johnson returned from a couple of weeks visit with her sister in Klamath Falls. Clyde Johnson is working on Walter Batson’s house. He is building on some more to the original house. • The Navy today is a three-di mensional fighting force with trained men and specially develop ed equipment and weapons capable of waging war equally well on, above or below the surface of the sea. • THÜftSDAY, APR. 8, 1948 The U.S. Navy is equipping several of its newer land-based patrol planes with a recently de veloped hydro-flap, a planing sur face that can be swung beneath the fuselage in forced landings at sea. j 7:30—Bible Study hour. 7:30 Wednesday—Prayer meeting.
