Final outcome of the fray netted the Columbians a 52-43 victory. Ball, Rainier “hotshot” was held during the first half of the game. He was able to run up five points only. In fact, Ball and Benson, Rainier’s main players, together only scored six points, Benson being held to one point by Tapp. Even then Rainier ran up 27 points in the first two periods. Coach Hergert stated that Jack Frank did the best job of defensive work that has been shown this year. He held Ball to three points during the first half and allowed him to score only two the second half, but Jack was fouled out towards the end of the third quarter. The scene sort of changed after that because “Fire” Ball went on a rampage and ran up 20 more points, mak ing a grand total of 25 for the evening. Ball’s shooting was mostly all “luck” shots, though his form wasn’t too good and his shots lacked finish. Don Cline didn’t do much scor- ing the first half either. In this period he tallied two points. In the last half, however, hb improv ed and rolled up 17 points for a total of 19.
