8 THURSDAY, JAN. 15, 1948 Many Prizes Due 4-H Club Winners College scholarships, trips to Chicago, Savings Bonds and medals await the national, state and coun ty winners of the 1948 national 4-H award contests open to boys and girls, 4-H club members, in 20 different projects. County Club Agent Fred Dahl now has the material on hand for these contests, covering almost every phase of club work. Awards are made for various phases of livestock, crops, home economics, gardening, health, farm safety, room improvement, soil conserva tion, better methods, achievement and leadership. These national awards were or iginated by the national committee on boys and girls club work to Parking studies conducted by the American Automobile associa tion show that one parking space is needed for every 400 square feet of sales space in ictail stores. THE EAGLE, VERNONIA. ORE. encourage progress and education in the various projects, rather than to emphasise just the superior pro ject. Development and growth are the keynotes and recognition is given mainly on this basis. That these contests are consider ed worthwhile, both to the club member and to the county, Dahl said, is shown by the fact that donors of awards range from the President of the United States to large corporations in various fields of agriculture. One company alone has made awards totaling over $1,000,000 to 4-H clubs to date. Additional information as to awards, qualifications and require ments may be obtained from club agent’s office by anyone forested in these contests.
