Library, U of 0 1947Papers List Top News Events A review of 1947’s 52 issues of The Vernonia Eagle makes pos sible a tabulation of the leading news stories which occured during the year just completed. Some of the events appearing in news accounts in those papers were welcomed, some were not. However, the year started with an announcement that was welcome to nearly every resident of the Nehalem valley. In the paper dated January 9, 1947, “Vernonia, Gateway to Nehalem Valley Lumbering, Farming, Recreation.** George E.
