Golden Wedding Event
Celebrated by Pioneer
Couple Friday, Oct. 3
Many friends and members of
the family arrived from far and
near to extend their congratula­
tions to Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Stan­
ton, who celebrated their golden
wedding anniversary, Friday, Oc­
tober 3.
' Festivities were much in ev­
idence from Friday throughout
the week end, the occasion being
high-lighted t by a family re-union
on Sunday, at which time a very
bountiful pot-luck dinner was
served around a beautiful large,
three-tier wedding cake, trimmed
in gold.
Many beautiful boquets of fall
flowers, messages of sincere wish­
es and gifts too numerous to men­
tion were received, outstanding of
which will be the electrification
of their home on Timber route.
Electrical gifts included a lovely
reading lamp, lighting fixtures,
radio and toaster given by their
five chidren and families and most
Fellowship Meeting
Is Well Attended
The local Assembly of God
church was host to a sectional fel­
lowship meeting on Monday with
services in the afternoon and even­
ing. People came as far as Port­
land and Tillamook and many of
the surrounding towns.
A fellowship dinner was served
at 5:30 p.m. The services were
well attended with nearly a ca­
pacity crowd in the evening.

Marge White Is Bride
Of Wm. E. Burness
On September 29, Marge White
became the bride of Wm. E. Bur­
ness. The couple was married at
Coeur D’Alene, Idaho and will
make their home in Vernonia.

Large Class Initiated
By V.F.W. Auxiliary
Study Group Meets
With Mrs. Heath
At the regular meeting of the
V.F.W. auxiliary held October 1,
a class of 16 was initiated. This
class was the largest taken in at
one time since the auxiliary was
organized.
Those initiated were: Gertrude
Anderson, Margaret Davies, Jau-
nita Nance, Rose Ann Poetter,
Dorothy Taylor, Louise Hamnette,
Doris L. Laird, Kathryn Wyckoff,
Eleanore O. Chilson, Lois Wayne
Hieber, Leone Keith, Nona L.
Lankston, Gertrude Magoff, Mil­
dred Roberson, Isabelle Brunsman
and Betty Tindall. Petition for
membership was read and voted
on for Vivian Laird, who will be
taken in at a future date.
Ethel Devine, president of the
Forest Grove auxiliary, gave a
very interesting and instructive
talk. Mrs. Laura Brainard, Sr.
vice-president of Forest Grove,
also was present. Another visitor
was Adella Hall, a former resident
of Vernonia and a past president
of this auxiliary.
There were 31 members present.
Lunch was served to 57. Eight
members of the local V.F.W. post
were present for lunch.

Mrs. W. G. Heath was hostess
to the Vernonia Study club, Thurs­
day evening, October 2. The
members answered roll call with
subjects pertaining to Indian Folk­
lore.
Mrs. Ralph Valpiani had
charge of the program, giving a
very interesting account of the
Lewis and Clark expedition to Sea­
side. This party consisted of the
first American citizens to cross
the continent, the first to travel
down the Snake and lower Colum­
bia rivers, the'first to construct a
building in .Oregon and the first
to visit Seaside. A patrol made
salt in a location mow the heart
of Seaside.
They were the first Americans
to dwell in the only part of the
American domain that was never
