Mr. and Mrs. At ley Chapman
and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Goodman-
son spent Saturday and Sunday
at Spirit Lake on a short vaca­
tion.
Among those attending the Ore­
gon-Texas game last Saturday
were: Jim Davies, Kent Bauers-
feld, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nance,
Charley Robinson, Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Shipman, Tom Bateman,

left last Sunday for a two-weeks
vacation which they are spending
in eastern Oregon.
Mrs. Mae Krieger of Keasey
and Mrs. A. A. Woolsey of Corey
Hill made a trip to Portland Tues­
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Merle Hanson of
Astoria visited Mrs. Hansen’s
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs.
John Rosa last Wednesday.
Mrs. Katie McDonald and com­
panion, Mrs. Faught of Klamath
Falls, are visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Roswurm and Mrs. Anna
Roswurm Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Peterson
moved into the Franklin Malmsten
house last Wednesday. The Malm-
stens have built a new home on
the heights of Portland, moving
into it last Wednesday.
Albert Schmidlin, who is ser­
iously ill was taken to the Vet­
eran’s hospital, Portland, on Wed­
nesday of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Messing left
yesterday evening for Bend where
they will spend several days hunt­
ing. They plan to be back here
by October 10. Mr. and Mrs. Perry
Drowning will also hunt near
there, leaving here Monday of this
week.
The ministers of Vernonia and
their wives met at the MacDon­
ald hotel last Friday for a 1 o’clock
luncheon in honor of Rev. and
Mrs. Aplet, new pastor of the
Christian church. Those present
were, Rev. and Mrs. L. Aplet,
Rev. and Mrs. Allen Backer, Rev.
and Mrs. Gail McIlroy and Rev.
and Mrs. Harry Russell.
R. A. Williams returned Thurs­
day of last week from Portland
where he had been for six weeks
while recovering from an injured
hand suffered in a machine at the
planing mill. Skin grafting was
necessary before the injury could
heal.
Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Watson left
Monday, September 27, for a
thr«e-weeks trip which will take
them to Cleveland, Oklahoma,

Mrs. S. V. Malmsten is now
convalescing at her home after a
very serious illness during which
time she was in the Portland
Sanitarium.
In an auto accident taking place
recently near Toledo, Mrs. Earl
Carricker was seriously injured.
The car rolled down a hill. Mrs.
Carricker is suffering from con­
cussion, severe internal injuries,
and injured shoulders and legs,
but is not (n the hospital at this
time her daughter reports.
W. T. Graves was at Walla
Walla, Washington, Sunday, Sept­
ember 21 for the dedication pro­
gram of the Whitman National
Monument. The monument com­
memorates the missionary endeav­
ors
of the
Whitmans
and
marks the location of the mas­
sacre on November 29, 1847, al­
most 100 years ago. At the mas­
sacre, Crockett A. Bewley, an
uncle of Mr. Graves, was killed
and Lorinda Bewley, an aunt was
captured.
Mr. Graves was the
only nephew present at the dedica­
tion.
Mr. and Mrs. Burford Wilker­
son and children, Margaret and
Bill of Tillamook visited at the
home of Mrs. Pearl Wilkerson
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. H-nry John of
Foster and Mr. John’s mother
from Portland visited over the
week end at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. E. R. Frank.
Mr. and Mrs. I. F. Borton from
Sheridan, parents of B. W. Borton,
came Thursday the 25th to see
their son and rfamily. Mr. and
Mrs. John Rosa had dinner and
spent the day visiting the Bortons
Saturday, then Sunday all of them
spent the day at the Rosa place
by Arcadia park. Mr. and Mrs.
Borton left Tuesday morning for
their home.
M rs. Wilma Boreton motored to
Forest Grove last Friday taking
along Mrs. Jeanne Roswurm to
see Mrs. Anna Roswurm who is
staying with her daughter and
family the McMiers. Mrs. Bor­
ton also called on the Oglesbys.
Mrs. Anna Roswurm returned
for a vis't in Vernonia with
relatives and friends.
Rm. G. Coleman, supertindent
of the Idaho district of the As­
semble of God. and former Pastor
of the Garibaldi church, was cal-

MIST—Mr. and Mrs. Westley
Garlock celebrated their Golden
Wedding a week ago Sunday by
having open house in the after­
noon and evening. The spacious
rooms in their new home were
beautifully decorated with cute
Mr. and Mrs. Elgus Frank. Rev.
Coleman was a visitor in Vernonia
last June and death was attributed
to a ruptered appendix.
Mrs. Nola Brady acted as the
hostess for a few friends last
Thursday evening in honor'of Mrs.
Leo G. Gilman. The evening was
spent in singing, scripture reading
and visiting. Those present were
Mesdames Steele, Partridge, Rat-
kie, Rosa, McIlroy, Rev. McIlroy
and the hostess.
. On September 21, Kiev, and Mrs.
McIlroy and Mr. and Mrs. Lang­
ston and L. McGee called at the
Roy Brady home on Timber Rt.
Mr. and Mrs. John Peterson of
North Platte, Nebraska arrived at
the Roy Brady home the following
day, September 22. Mrs. Peterson
is Roy Brady’s sister. Tuesday
the Petersons, Mr. and Mrs. Brady
Dean Brady and Janice DeVaney,
granddaughter of the BYadys went
to Garibaldi to visit a illative of
Mr. Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Christiansen.
Melvin G. Hieber, son of Mr.
and Mrs. C. F. Hieber and an at­
torney at Hillsboro, was named
chairman a short time ago of the
annual Washington county Red
Cross funds drive to be held next
spring.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Slocum from
Los Angeles were visitors of Mr.
and Mrs. Pete Brunsman Tuesday.

couple who have traveled life’s
highway for fifty years together.
As the guests arrived, they
were served with ice cream, cake
and either coffee or punch. The
old songs of long ago were sung by
the many guests with Mrs. Robert
Berg accompanying at the piano.
Many and lovely were the gifts
received, among which was a large
floor lamp from the people of the
community, an ottoman from the
“Friends visiting over the week’end and
