Emergency appropiation act ex tends time when amputees eligible under Public Law 663, 79th con gress may apply for automobiles to June 30, 1948. Public Law 34, amends the ex isting law pertaining to U. S. government life insurance policies to provide for privilege of re newing expiring five-year level premium term policies for an other five-year period. This law affects some 38,000 world war I veterans holding these policies who have reached ages where insurance is even more necessary than before. Public Law 377, provides for institutional on farm training for veterans and places this program on a parity with regular voca tional training programs. H. R. 4242, increases income limitations governing the grant ing of pensions to veterans and death-pension benefits to widows and children of veterans as fol lows: Unmarried person $1,800 (now $1,000;; married person or any person with a dependent, $3,000 (now $2500). Any man who has had prior service in the Armed Forces may elect to do any of these things if he enlists in the Army now for 3 years or more. He can choose to be assigned directly to duty in Europe or with one of five famous Infantry divisions in the Far East. Or he may choose to be stationed near home for the first full year of his enlistment (where there are vacancies). Heretofore vets were required to estimate their earnings at the time of enrollment and then requir ed to report actual earnings once each semester. These reports were checked against the amount of subsistence being received to determine if combined earnings and subsistence exceeded the ceil ings placed by congress on such combined incomes. • Meeting at Park Enjoyed Sunday RIVERVIEW — Following the Sunday school meeting at the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Sunday, the group went to Rogers Park where they enjoyed a picnic dinner. After dinner a conference was held and many guests gave interesting talks. Mr. and Mrs. Young and Mr. and Mrs. Dutton of Fort Smith, Arkansas, are visiting at the E. L. Long home. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krieger and sons visited at the W. J. Lindsley home Saturday evening. J.I.ss Alkene Hudson visited with Joan Lindsley Tuesday night. Sister Lund, Sister ^Stringer and Elder Bench from the mission of fice in Portland visited at the Polly Lynch home over the week end. MTs. George Bell received word Sunday evening that her brother, who lived in Idaho, has passed away. Bessie Netka has returned home from Kernsville where she had been helping her niece. Mr. and Mrs. Claude E. Gibson and daughter, Claudine, and son, Claude Jr., motored to Beaverton to attend a house warming given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Burt. They were former owners of the Vernonia Bakery. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nichols and Mrs. Sue Ward motored to Portland Friday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nichols attended the fair in Salem Thurs day. Mrs. Ralph Mahar spent last week in Milwaukie with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hendrickson. Mrs. Sparks and Jane Hickles of Portland visited at the Walter Moore home last week. Nate Huntley of Carlton and Jim Williamson of Hillsboro spent the week end at the Louis Huntley home. Vistors at the Walter Moore home last week were Mr. and Mrs. Larmis of Portland and Mr. and ^frs. Gene Roseburn of Ta coma, Washington. Mrs. Anna Parker and two bro thers and her sister and their families made a trip to Canada to visit their brother whom they hadn’t seen for 35 years.
