No action will be required of eligible veterans as the increased rates will be paid automatically in the September checks which trainees will receive on or after October 1. The law was passed by the last session of congress and provides that a veteran enrolled in a course under public law 16 whose disability is rated 30 per cent higher, will receive a minimum of *115 a month if he has no dependents and $135 a month it he has one dependent. Previously the law allowed $105 and $115 in the same categories. Additional allowance for one child is increas ed from $10 a month to $20 and the previous allowance of $7 for each additional child is raised to $15. No change is made in the monthly allowance for a dependent parent. Many Seek Aid Pacific Northwest veterans and their dependents beat a steady path to veterans administration offices seeking information and assistance on benefits provided by law, according to figures re leased by the VA. VA offices recorded 876,447 visits and 331,642 telephone calls in the 12-month period ending June 30. VA contact representatives help ed prepare 213,000 applications for benefits and wrote more than 220,000 letters in connection with the applications. One hundred and five thousand of the personal calls were made at part-time offices served by a traveling contact representatives. The program ends July 25, 1952. • hvenís m Oregon 25,000 STEELHEAD PLANTED BY FISH COMMISSION SEASIDE—A total of 25,000 steelhead have been planted in the Necanicum and its tributaries dur ing the past week by Roy De Lozier, state game commission em ploye. The planting was made in two trips of the fish truck. So far this year, the game com mission has planted 75,000 trout and steelhead in the Necanicum. DeLozier was at one time in charge of the Necanicum fish hatchery before it was abandoned. STANDARD STATION ASKED BY COMPANY MCMINNVILLE—The Federal Communications commission an nounced in Washington D. C. today that the McMinnville Broadcasting company has filed application for a standard 1000 watt AM broad casting station to be located in McMinnville. No detailed plans have been re leased concerning installation of the station pending further action of the FCC on the application. The McMinnville broadcasting company last July filed application with the Federal Communications commission for a 250 watt fre quency madulation (FM) station. FOREST FIRE ACREAGE FAR BELOW 1946 FOREST GROVE—Fires in the Northwest Oregon forest district, though six more in number so far than a year ago have consumed less than seven per cent in acreage headquarters reported last week. Fifty-six fires breaking out in the district to date have burned only 82 acres. This compares with 50 blazes last year which swept across 1300 acres. Most land burned this season in these small fires was cutover. I am a to watch to have around GREEN.
