LET'S BE SOCIABLE Second Degree Given; Grand Officers Visit • THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, OIÍE. ( Another candidate for member ship in the'l.O.O.F. was given the second degree at the regular meet ing «f the Odd Fellows Tuesday evening. Taking the work at that time was Albert Schalock. Also present for the Tuesday meeting were two grand lodge officers, Dr. Earl J. Ivie, Grand Master, and Gedrge E. .Lyons, Grand Marshal. Both were pay ing their official visit here. • Birthdays, Anniversary Honored at O.E.S. Meet Buffet Supper Enjoyed By Study Group Thurs. Nehalem Chapter, O.E.S., held its regular business meeting Wed nesday evening. Birthdays were celebrated for July, August and September. Birthday and anniver sary cake was served from tables beautifully decorated in fall How ers and candles. Mr. and Mrs. John Kirk, cel ebrating their 14th' wedding an niversary, were sent on a “trea sure hunt,” finding at the end of the hunt a gift from the chapter. All members and visiting mem bers are especially invited to at tend “Friendship night" October 1st. Vernonia Study Club members enjoyed a buffet supper at the home of Mrs. Harry Sandon Thurs- * day, September 18. The commit tee in charge was Mrs. Fletcher, Mrs. Nichols, Mrs. Greenman, and the hostess, Mrs. Sandon. Two new members, Mrs. Oscar George and Mrs. Emil Messing, were welcomed into the club. The program for the evening was in charge of Mrs. Paul Gor don who told of their enjoyable five-week trip in the Canadian Rockies. ■ They traveled as far north as Prince George and east to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Many snapshots were shiwn of the scenery and events of the trip. Mrs. Valpiani arranged for new birthday friends names to be drawn by the old Chinese mystery joss sticks. • The Pollyanna circle of the Evangelical U. B. missionary so ciety met Wednesday, September 17 at the home of Mrs. Margaret Merritt. Devotions were led by Mrs. Harry Junken and the bus iness meeting followed. December 13 was set aside for a bazaar to be held at the Sund- land Electric store. Refresments were served to 17 members and the next meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. Weidman on October 15. • Sixty Present for Social Affair Fri. Mrs. Carmichael Hostess To Friendship Club An attendance of 60 was pre sent for tiie mother and daughter party held last Friday at the Evangelical social hall. This affair, the first of it’s kind held at the church, was sponsored by the Women’s Society of the church. The evening’s program included a reading by Mrs. Wesley Bol- meier, poem by Mrs. Francis Mullins, vocal duet by Mary Ann Clark and Margaret Thomas and solos by Sally Kaspar and Dorothy Ann Hogberg, both accompanied by Mrs. Frank Kaspar. Refreshments were served after the program. The Friendship club met with Mrs. Carmichael Thursday, Sept ember 18. Those members pre sent were: Mrs. Steers and daugh ter, Mary, Mrs. Claude Gibson, Mrs. Charlie Biggs and son, John ny, Mrs. John Biggs, Mrs. Eliz abeth Brown, Mrs. George Miller, and Mrs. Blanche Millis. The guest was Mrs. Julia Boeck. They enjoyed a lovely turkey dinner.
