2 THURS., SEPTEMBER 25, 1947 THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, ORE. TOPICS OF THE TOWN Guests on Sunday, September 21, at the B. W. Borton home were Mr. and Mrs. Royal I. Bor ton from Salem, Royal and B. W. being brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rosewurm and Mrs. Bes sie Benson. Mr* Kay Justice and children are making their home in Portland where the younger boy is attend ing deaf school. Mr. Justice will join them as soon as his transfer with the Shell Oil company is completed. Ralph Borton had the cast re moved last Tuesday at the St. Vincents Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Abe Fast and Mrs. Clara Liepold, all of Portland visited Mr. and Mrs. John Rosa at their home near Arcadia Park last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Michener and Margaret spent the week end in Portland visiting at the home of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Wooldridge. While there Saturday evening they visit ed Mrs. Michener’s brother and family of Multnomah and on Sun day went to Woodburn to visit and spend the day with Mrs. Michen er’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. V. V. Hickox. They returned home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Davis and baby son, Patrick, from i West Col umbia, South Carolina are here visiting his parents, Mr. '. and Mrs. Carl Davis. They plan to be here for at least two weeks. ‘ Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Michener on Stoney Point Sunday, the 14th, were Mr. and Mrs. M. The occasion was to celebrate Mrs. Michener’s birthday. A picnic dinner was enjoyed. Earl Spofford, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Spofford, enrolled Sep- tember 18 in Multnomah Radio college in Portland. His course will require a full year of study, graduation being in September of next year. Mrs. A. E. Jennings attended the state council meeting of Town send clubs of Oregon at Forest Grove Sunday and also visited with the Thomas Morgans. She remained until Monday noon. Mrs. Morgan’s health is much better than when they left here last June. Mrs. Jennings reported that only 81 members attended the council meeting, but that it was on? of the most active sessions. Five speakers appeared and legislative measures were discussed. By a year from now the Townsendites hope to have something inaugu rated that will benefit every Ore gon citizen. LOCALS .am r,t hrh kc eg F Mr. and M rs. Malcomb Bryant are the parents of a boy, James Malcomb, born September 12. He is their second chid. Mrs. Bryant, the former Jane Wilkerson, taught at the Vernonia high school sever al years ago. Mrs. Holly Holcomb, Jr. and two daughters were here Sunday from St. Helens to see Holly Hol comb, Sr. and visit friends. Mr. and Mrs. Turner Gründen and their son and family of Ever ett, Arkansas left Monday after spending four days here at the M. F. Gründen home. The two men are brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Olinger are on their vacation and are visiting her brother anti family at Lake view. They are expected home this week. Mrs. Dave Marshall and her sister. Miss Fairbanks joined Mrs. Marshall’s son, Larry, at Eugene last Friday and from there all of them drove to the Oregon Caves and Crater Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Ruhl have returned here from a vacation trip that took them to Coos Bay to see Mr. and Mrs. Jack Spencer, to Klamath Falls to visit Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Bleile and Creswell where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed Green. Ali are former res- idents of Vernonia and while here were employed by the Oregon-Am erican. J. C. Middleton returned Wed nesday of last week after spend- ing a week at Burley, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oliver of Los Angeles left here last Wed nesday after visiting at the Ed Frazee home since the Friday before. Mrs. Oliver and Mr. Frazee are sister and brother. Floyd Bush has been ill and in bed at his home since last Sunday because of an infected hand, The infection developed into blood poisoning. Duke Byers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bus Byers, has been pledged to Beta Theta Pi, men’s fraternity at Oregon State college. Here from Thursday of last week to Tuesday morning of this week to visit Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brickel and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Stubbs were Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Chapman, Jr., and three children of Ashfort, Arizona and Mrs. H. D. Chapman, Sr. of Houston, Tex as. Mr. and Mrs. Chapman Jr. and children left for Anchorage, Alaska where they will make their homs ■» the future. Mrs. Chap man, Sr., will remain for two or three weeks. Gordon Larson, who has been on a two-week vacation from the bank, will be back at work Mon day. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Elwell of Rainier were in Vernonia Sunday and spent part of the day golfing at the Vernonia Country club. Mr. Elwell is president of the Bank of Rainier. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Lamping are the parents of a son, Bernard Lou, Jr., born at the Forest Grove hospital a week ago Saturday. He weighed five and one-half pounds. Mt. and Mrs. Gene Shipman re ceived a phone call Monday from their son, MMM2c Glen Shipman, whose ship, the Salisbury Sound, had docked a short time before at San Diego. Glen will be in the states from now until the end of his four-year enlistment in April of next year. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ingram of San Francisco, California, Mrs. Laura McCarter of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Lional West of Ore gon City were week end guests at the T. F. Hillyer home in River- view. Mrs. Ingram and the Hill- yers were “teen agers” in their home town of Grand Forks, B. C. in the past. The Ingrams are on a tour and will visit Mt. Rainier, Victoria, B. C. and the famous Coulee Dam before returning to their California home. Mrs. Earl Dial of Kennewick,.
