The 20-opening press, so huge that the first piece of equipment to arrive weighed over 20 tons, is capable of turning out 40 five by twelve feet three ply panels at once. DANCE LEGION HALL, Vernonia A total of 2,328,000 seedling trees was planted on the national forest^ of Oregon and Washington during the fiscal year 1947, ac cording to a report just issued by the U. S. forest service, Portland. This was sufficient to plant 3,975 acres, says the report. Aa additional 1,400,000 trees were available in the government nursery but were not planted be cause of delays occasioned by labor and appropiation difficulties. These will be held over until the next planting season, when they will be planted as three-year-old stock. Usual practice is to plant the nursery seedlings at age two years. Principal planting areas were on the Olympic national forest, north western Washington, 487,000 trees; Siuslaw, on the Oregon coast, 138,700 trees; and Snoqualmie, in the Washington Cascade range, 100,00O trees. Planting also was done on the Fremont, Rogue River, Siskiyou, and Umpqua in Oregon; and on the Columbia, Mount Baker, and Wenatchee in Wash ington. The Columbia national forest planted 22 acres in cooperation with the Boy Scouts and Future Farmers of America; and the Mount Baker planted nine acres in cooperation with the Boy Scouts.
