Skirts The Apparel Shop ★ < ★★★★★★ I.O.O.F. Applications for member­ ship were brought in and the fol­ lowing were admitted: Marvin Turner, Allen C. Ray, Ivan Hess, Omar S. Poynter, Ver- lin Crume and Louis Schroeder. These men will go to Beersheba on August 16 to visit Father Abraham and be instructed in the mysteries of the Encampment. Other applications will be acted upon at the next meeting August 15. Beersheba, which by the way is out in the open, will be the second of its kind held in Oregon. All degree work will be put on in a natural setting which is second to none. Last year 159 candidates visited there together with about 1200 regular camp members from all over the state and it is under stood that other jurisdictions will be represented there this year. The program, which is in its final form, calls for encampment opening in special session at 1:00 p.m. August 16, at Coburg, Ore­ gon. Following the official open­ ing, Hillsboro Encampment 84 will confer the Patriarchal degree and Central Oregon No. 61 and Prinville No. 92 combined will con­ fer the Golden Rule degree. El­ lison No. 1 and Golden Rule No. 28 of Portland will wind up the degree work by putting on the Royal Purple degree. Wives of the Encampment mem­ bers and Odd Fellows will be en­ tertained by the ladies of the Eugene and Coberg lodges and after the degree work they may join their husbands at supper which will be served on the grounds at Beersheba. Following supper an entertainment has, been ar­ ranged. A good time is guaranteed to all who attend and the candidates who take these degrees will never forget it for years to come. Mrs. Holly Holcomb Jr., and daughters, Bonnie and Candy, visited in Vernonia for three days last week at Mr. Holly Holcomb, Sr’s., home. Ralph Boi^on, son of Mrs and Mrs. Bud Borton, was taken to St. Vincents hospital Thursday where he will be at least six weeks to recover from a broken right leg caused when a horse ran over him. His leg was broken between the knee and hip. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Brunsman returned here the week end of July 25 after a three-week’s mer­ chandise buying trip to Chicago, South Bend and other cities in that vicinity. Mrs. R. R. Long Trip to East Starts MIST—Bernard Dowling left last Friday on a trip to the east coast in New Hampshire, Mass­ achusetts and Maine for several months. He expects to visit sev­ eral places of interest such as Washington, D.C., Virginia, New York, etc. He expects to be in New Hampshire in the White Mountains in time for the musical attraction. Clarence Brown is putting a shower and pourch on the house where he lives. Mr. Bridgers is the owner of the house. The McQuestion family is mov­ ing soon to Lakeside from the Roy Hughes Cottage. Clark Fenton from Silver Lake, Washington and his sister from Kansas City, Missouri were Sun­ day guests of cousins the L. P. Wikstroms, Sr. The O. T. Pierce family is mov­ ing to Lakeside shortly, and the family of Pete Henderson will occupy the home vacated by the Pierce’s. Mrs. W. M. Garlock was a Sat­ urday afternoon caller of Mrs. A. A. He is acting as forester for the West Gate Lumber Company at Sweet Home. The association joins the 850 grad­ uates of the school of forestry for futhenpnce of forestry in Ore­ gon and elsewhere. Long Rain Spoils Hay MIST—Mr. A. W. Andrews has has been on a trip to Wisconsin and is now on his way back. The prolonged rains spoiled some of the ranchers hay. The Libels had to burn 40 tons that had been spoiled. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Jones were visitors in Portland one day last week, Mrs. Jones going in to con­ sult her doctor. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Olson and son, Warren, from Tacoma, Wash­ ington were guests last week a few days of their relatives, the Austin Dowlings. Mr. Olson re­ mained only two nights, as he is employed in Portland and travels over the state. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sundland and Sheron were here over the week end from McMinnville. Sharon remained for a few days visit with her grandparents, the Chas. Sundlands. Mrs. J. O. Libel went to St. Helens Tuesday to visit her hus­ band for a while.
