District Convention
Of Pythian Sisters
The Pythian Sister convention
of district No. 5 was held in the
I.O.O.F. hall Wednesday, May 28
with Edna Heenan, District Dep­
uty Grand Chief, as presiding of­
ficer and Silvia Turner, convention
secretary.
The address of welcome was giv­
en by Georgia Mellinger of Ver­
nonia Temple No. 61 and the re­
sponse by Bernice Mathieson of
Friendship Temple No. 8 of North
Plains.

the district registered. Grand
Chief Marcella Middleton, Grand
Jr. Alma Friday, Grand Manager
Margaret Myers, Grand Protector
Eunice Burke and Grand Guard
Bernice Mathieson were present.
Also present were several past
grand officers including Past Su­
preme Chief Cora Davis of Port­
land and Supreme and Past Su­
preme representatives.
At the opening of the evening
session delegates present were
entertained by a short program
consisting of a skit, “Mock Wed­
ding,” put on by members of Ver­
nonia Temple, songs by Marvin
and Jean Turner and a reading
given by Maude Staunard of
of Phoenicia Temple of Hillsboro.
Friendship Temple No. 8 of
North Plains initiated one Knight,
Gordon Bailey, of Seaside and
Delphi Temple No. 13 of Forest
Grove assisted by the degree staff
of Phoenicia Temple No. 10 of
Hillsboro initiated two ladies,
LaRue Clark of Seaside and Hazel
Bergerson of Vernonia and one
Knight, George Johnson, of Ver­
nonia.

Mrs. Mahar Hostess
To Friendship Club
Before an arch of roses, white
carnations and snowballs, Sunday,
June 1, Miss Jean Peasnail, daugh­
ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Peasnal),
became the bride of Melvin
Schwab. The wedding was held at
the bride’s home with Reverend
Allan H. Backer officiating.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore traditional white.
Her lace dress was princess style
with train; her vail was finger­
tip illusion net caught with orange
blossoms. She carried a boquet of
calla lilies and mock orange.
Mrs. Ralph Krieger, the matron
of honor, wore a rose taffeta dress
Her boquet was of pale blue and
white delphinium.
Wayne Crume was best man.
At the reception following the
ceremony, Miss Neoma McMullen,
Mrs. Jim Bond and Mrs. W. R.
Poteet, the bride’s aunt, assisted
about the rooms.
Miss Carol Sword and Miss
Mildred Wolff were the gift girls.
The bride’s going away costume
was an acqua street dress with
black accessories. Her corsage
was yellow roses and white del­
phinium.
Mr. and Mrs. Schwab will make
their home in Riverview after a
honeymoon at an Oregon beach.

Mrs. Ralph Mahar entertained
the Friendship club at her home in
Riverview a few days ago and the
members present were: Mrs. Will
Chalmers, Mrs. John Biggs, Mrs.
Millis, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, Mrs.
Ev Woods and M ts . George Miller.
Guests for the day were Mrs.
Merckling and Mrs. Corder of
Portland and Mrs. Henrickson of
Milwaukie.
Mrs. Ruby Biggs will entertain
the club at her home June 19.

Eagles during the coming 1947-
48 year were named a short time
ago. They are: H. W. Carrick, past
worthy president; W. N. Noakes,
worthy president; L. E. Spittier,
worthy vice-president; Chas. R.
Reid, chaplain; Forest L. Blount,
secretary; Roger Dibble, treasur­
er; George Smith, conductor; Les­
li” Fitzlaff, inside guardian and
form with the invitation from
Neah-Kah-Nie Temple No. 54 ac­
cepted to meet at Wheeler for
the 1948 convention.
Mary Smith of Wheeler was
recommended for District Deputy
Grand Chief and Essie Cain of
Nehalem as convention secretary.
