He left here June 4, Wednesday, for McChord Field, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. McCabe are spending most of this week at Jefferson as guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Johnson, former Ver- noia residents. Betty Counts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Counts, left a week ago Saturday for San Jose, Cali fornia to visit her two brothers and a sister. She plans to be there a- bout a month. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Wagner and children left this week for Los Angeles, Calif, on a three-week vacation and business trip Clark Cain, ofice manager of West Oregon Electric, spent last week end at The Dalle3 visiting his mother and sister. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Koski left this week for Arcata, California to make their home. He will act as manager for the Cedarwood Tim ber company’s operation there. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ensworth, former residents here, were in town Monday for a short time to greet friends. Mrs. Leatha Tously and son, Arthur, who recently received his discharge from the Navy after spending almost a year in the South Pacific, were here recently to visit friends. He began work last week as surveyor for con struction work at Cottoge Grove. Mrs. Tousley is employed by the veterans administration in Port land. Seventeen relatives and friends assembled at the W. D. Steele home Sunday, May 25, to celebrate Mrs. Steele’s birthday. Dinner was enjoyed outdoors under the trees. Mr. and Mrs. James Walker came from Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Hallowell and Mr. and Mrs. Wil fred Hallowell arrived from Dallas. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Farnstrom and daughter, Joyce, of Vancouver brought Mrs. Melvin Newby, Melva Newby and Allan Billings of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Messing and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar W. Steele were also present. William Stryker, who has been athletic instructor and teach er at the Crooked River grade school this year is taking over the direction of all playground activ ities in the program. To date more than 100 chilrden have registered for this program and it is expected that more will started its night shift, Monday ev ening,last week adding 50 men to the pay roll at the mill and putting on almost as many more in the logging industry to keep the saw mill supplied.
