At the end of March, 56,624 veterans were in institutional training under G.I. Bill provisions. Veterans .in job training, how ever, dropped from 16,541 in Feb ruary to 15,738 in March. Disabled veterans receiving in stitutional or job training under Public I-aw 16 totaled 6,886 at the end of March. Loans to 1,744 Northwest vet erans during March amounted to $9,237,651 of which the govern ment guaranteed or insured $4,- 367,864. Since the beginning of the program, 25,310 veterans in the area have received government guaranteed loans. VET CLAIMS REVIEWED UNDER NEW SCHEDULE About 31 per cent of the dis ability ratings of Pacific North west veterans have been reviewed under new schedule authorized by Congress, the Veterans Adminis tration has announced. Since August 1, 1946. VA rating officials have reviewed 27.721 claims of the total 90,228 which have been established. Slightly more than 72,000 com pensation or pension awards were being paid at the end of March. The VA explained that only vet erans whose disability ratings are ten per cent or more are eligible for payment. Veterans were requested not to inquire about review of their cases as all claims will be reviewed automatically, the VA added. QUESTION OF THE WEEK Q. Are there any ceilings on the earnings of a veteran-trainee under Public Law 16? A. The wage ceilings established for veterans in G.I. Bill train ing do not apply to disabled vet erans in Vocational Rehabilitation. However, a trainee under Public I-aw 16 may have his subsistence reduced so that the sum of his wages and subsistence do not ex ceed the minimum entrance wage ordinarily paid on the particular job for which he is being trained. when lower food prices mean so much to your family— now is the time to compare Safeway values and see for yourself how much more Safeway really does offer you for your money.
