LET’S BE SOCIABLE Mrs. Myrtle Lines Honored at Shower Friendship Club Is Entertained March 20 A shower in honor of Mrs. Myrtle Lines was held at her home on Corey hill March 20. Attending were 17 ladies and the honored guest received many pretty gifts. Three of the invited guests were unable to attend but sent gifts. Refreshments of ice cream, •cookies, cake and punch were served. • Mrs. Blanche Millis entertained the Friendship Club at her home March 20. The Easter motif was carried out with a nest of colored eggs decorating the table. A delicious luncheon was served at one o’clock followed by a short business session. The members enjoying the social gathering included Mrs. A. E. Wood, Mrs. Marion Steers and daughter Mary, Mrs. A. L. Bas sett and grandson, Pete, Mrs. R. Mahar, Mrs. C. E. Gibson, Mrs. H. Crume, Mrs, T. M. Crawford, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, Mrs. J. Biggs and granddaughter and Mrs. L. Carmichael. Guest for the day was Mrs. Jim Brady. Next meeting w(ill be held by Mrs. George L. Miller April 17 at her home. Mrs. Haitwick Hostess To Nehalem Social Club The Nehalem Social Club met Wednesday evening. March 12, at the home of Mrs. Frank Hartwick with Mrs. Myrtle Ramsey assist ing. There were 26 members present. At the close of the business meeting delicious refreshments were served. The next meeting will be April 9. Past Matrons, Bessie Tapp, Minnie Hughes, Louise George, Erma Hartwick, Jeanne Crawford, Allie Dickscn, Marie Hawkins, Inez Powell, all of Vernonia, G w 1 a d y s Macpherson, Helen Dewey, and Myrtle Brock of Port land, I<»ona McGraw of Forest Grove, Verla Porterfield of Hood River, and Myrtle Ramsey Past Matron of Concordia Chapter; Past Matrons Emil Messing, Glen Hawkins, Ray Mills and Leslie Skuzie and charter members, Gladys Ruhl, Bessie Tapp, Carna Childs and Mary Aldrich were welcomed, escorted to the East and a candlelight degree given for them. Other visitors were Mrs. Wm. Lumm of Portland and Mrs. Ole Anderson of Forest Grove. Initiatory degrees were given Mrs. Dane Brady. A social hour was enjoyed around the supper tables. These were decorated cleverly in St. Patricks day motif, the committee being Lottie Swanson, Molly Eby, Florence Brunsman and Ethel Tousley. Initiatory degrees will be given next meeting and visiting mem bers are welcomed. • Ruth fjausler, Norvin Wikstrom Wed Saturday Miss Ruth Hausler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Hausler of Vernonia and Norvin Wikstrom of Mist, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Wikstrom, were united in marriage at Vancouver, Washing ton last Saturday. Fifteen rel atives attended the ceremony. After the ceremony, the bridal couple, accompanied by relatives enjoyed a chicken an steak dinner in Portland. Following a short hoeymoon, thie couple will^ be at home here. “Mill on the* Floss” Review Is Given Mrs. Ralph Valpiani was host ess when the Vernonia Study club met March 20 to hear a review of i“Mill on the Floss,” the George Eliot classic. Mrs. Ben Brickel told the story of Maggie Tulliver well, renewing acquaintance of members (most of whom had read the book dur ing school days) with the strong ly protrayed characters. For roll call familiar quotations were given. During the business meeting plans were made for a guest tea to be held April 3 at the home of Mrs. Judd Greenman. • J.U.G.’s Entertained At Timmons Home The regular meeting off the J.U.G. club wa3 enjoyed last Fri day evening at the home of Wau neta Timmons. Four tables of pinochle were pfayed and first prize was won by Faye Davis, second by Helen Smith and low by Gertrude Rusow. Randi Soden won the door prize. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, June Willis, Silvia Turner and Wauneta Timmons. Because of the Easter holidays, the next meeting will be April 18. Helping Circle To Meet Today MIST—A few villagers attend ed the banquet given at the close of the new bank opening in Vernonia Saturday. Mrs. Austin Dowling is hostess today for members of the Mist Helping Circle. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanson recently received word they were now gand parents, the stork hav ing flown over the Tom Ford home in Portland leaving their first grandchild. Mrs. L. P. Wikstrom and her father, Jim Hill, drove to Hills- Charles Sundjand and his help er, Bernard Dowling, did some wiring below Birkenfeld for T. P. and J. F. Johnston last week.
