2 THURSDAY, DEC. 12, 1946 THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, ORF, TOPICS OF THE TOWN Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCabe spent their Thanksgiving holiday at i the G. A. McKinnon home at Sandy. The McCabes also learned last week of the death of his uncle, Father J. J. Condon, at Denver, Colorado, November 26. The burial took place Wednesday, December 4. Funeral services were held for Clarence Bruce of Vernonia, Mon day, December 9 at 2:30 p.m. in Finley’s Rose Chapel in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Ruhl, Mrs. E. L. Lloyd and Dayton Ross of Vernonia attended the services. Mr. Bruce’s final resting place will be in Richmond, Virginia, in the family plot. Mrs. Holly Holcomb, Jr., of Beaverton and daughters Sue and Candice Ann, were in, Vernonia Friday and Saturday, visiting Holly Holcomb, Sit, and friends. BAZAAR December 13, 8 p.m. at church home. Mrs. Bob Cline's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Derkin of Anacortes, Washington, visited here Sunday and Monday on a return trip from San Fran cisco, California, to their home in Washington. Mrs. Hollis Hartwick and daughter, Susan Marie, are visit ing her mother, Mrs. Claude Nor ris and family, while Mr. Hart wick is on a trip to California with ' a load of Christmas trees. Mrs. Walter Vaughan under went an eye operation, performed by Dr. A. J. Browning at the Good Samaritan hospital Decem ber 5. She will be in the hos pital for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Roediger and daughter took a trip to Portland and McMinnville Sunday. ’ Announcements recently re ceived here told of the marriage of Robert Charles Wall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wall of Toledo, Washington, former residents of Vernonia, to Lola Purvis, daugh ter of Henry Gordon Purvis of Toledo. Robert Wall is the grandson of Mrs. Jack Wall. Mrs. Elizabeth Kummer of Mt. Angel visited friends in Vernonia Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Reece Holcomb and Tommy Lou of Gresham, vis ited friend in Vernonia Tues day, December 3. Jack Childs visited his par ents, the Albert Childs, Sunday and his sister, Mrs. Frances Mul lins and sons, Mike and Jimmie. Mrs. Frances Mullins spent a Wickstrom Mill Nearly Ready to Begin Work; Montana Visit Intended MIST—Callers to visit Mrs. Geo. Jone Monday were Mrs. L. P. Wickstrom, Mrs. Joe Roeser, Mrs. Austin Dowling, Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Wnowles and Mrs. No ble Dunlap. Mrs. Les Stevens’ mother was a guest at the Steven’s home last week. L. P. Wickstrom has his mill about ready to work. He expects to be sawing by Christmas. Mrs. Arby Mills is making plans for a visit with her sister and family, the Rev. Joe Louquests, in Montana over the holidays. She leaves next week. Joe Banzer was in Vernonia Saturday, shopping.
