“No Time for Tears”
Reviewed at Club
“No Time for Tears” was the
book reviewed by Mri. H. M. Cul
bertson when the Vernonia Study
club met October 17 at the home
of Mrs. W. G. Heath. Members
answered roll call by telling an
old fashioned remedy.
Lora Wood Hughes, author of
“No Time for Tears,” at the
age of six expressed her desire
to “tie salve on people and make
them well.” Her life on a Kan
sas homestead, in California
during the early ’90’s, in Honolu
lu as an army nurse during the
Spanish-American war, in Mon
tana and finally in the Puget
Sound country where she retires
to her home, “Folly on the Shore,”
makes an interesting autobiog
raphy which ends on the note
of the 70-year-old nurse convert
ing her home into a Red Cross
unit in the beginning of World
War II.
On November 7, Ethel Tousley
will entertain with Mrs. W. G.
Heath telling “The Story of Lin
en.”
