Jae Peachey was taken by Bush
ambulance to Providence hospital,
Portland, Monday morning for
medical attention and rest due
to a heart ailment.
Mr. and Mr». Kent Bauerafeld
are the parents of a son born at
2:15 Sunday mpming at the Wil-
eas Memorial hospital, Portland.
He weighed seven pounds.
Mr. and Mr». Calvin Davis and
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dyer returned
Sunday from a hunting trip which
took them to Bend and return.
Mr. and Mrs. LarTy Brady are
the parents of a .seven-pound girl,
Judith Terry, born October 3.
Mr. and Mrs. Brady are graduates
of Vernonia high school and he
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dane
Brady.
Mrs. Brady, formerly
Betty Hall, is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Don Hall who lived
at Natal but are now residing
at Glenoma, Washington.

William R. Hall, S2c, of V«r-
nonia has returned to the United
States after serving for the last
few months aboard the 35,000-ton
aircraft carrier USS Antietam
This is the first trip the Antietam
has made to the U.S. since the
end of the war.
The carrier,
which participated in the cere­
monies granting and celebrating
the independence of the Philippine
Islands, visited the ports of Eni-
wetok, Guam, Saipan, Okinawa,
Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo and
Yokohama on her Far Eastern
tour of duty.
Mr. and Mrs. Morri» Graves and
son, Dennis, moved this week to
Gold Beach, where they have
purchased a restaurant.
Dick Thompson, employe of the
West Oregon Electric Coopera­
tive was seriously injured Monday
while working at Warren with
the
cooperative’s
line-building
crew.
He suffered a ruptured
bladder and pelvis broken in seven
places. The injury was caused Dy
a falling pole.

New School at Vanport;

struction of a residence on their

Mrs. Frank Mills went to Port­
land Monday for a two-day visit
with her children.
Brother and Sister Barber and

ricane, Utah, spent the week end
at the George Bell home.
Margaret Wells was absent
from school Monday due to an
aching tooth which was extracted

From 25 to 30 interested small
farmers and business men attend­
ed the Rototiller demonstration at
nonia shoppers on Saturday.
Mrs. Fred Siegenthaler has been
to Portland for a few days.
Sonny Wickstrom has developed
a bad eye trouble and had to
go to the doctor.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Houry returned
Friday night from a two weeks
vacation. Some time was spent
in Klamath Falls.
Mrs. Minnie Johnson and her
the Walter Moore place Saturday
afternoon. A goodly sum-up of
the advantages of this modem
machine was given by the demon­
strator. Mr. Moore is purchasing
one.

For the purpose of this Act the term
"gross income" means the gross receipts
of the taxpayer received as compensation for personal
services and the gross receipts of the taxpayer derived
from trade, business, commerce, or the sale of tangible
or intangible property and including interest, dividends,
discounts, rentals, royalties, fees, commissions, bonuses,
or prises or any other emoluments, however designated,
and without any deductions on account of the cost of
property sold, the cost of materials used, labor cost, taxes,
royalties, interest or discount paid, or any other ex­
penses whatsoever.
