Chaziiae Durant who visited here
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.
F. Ruhl for about 10 days, left
last Thursday evening for their
home at Los Angeles, California.
Mr. and Mrs. Ix»u Girod spent
last week end at Dufur at the
home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. A. W. Limmerouth.
Clarence Biggs w«« taken to
Providence hospital in Portland
Monday in the Bush ambulance
after falling from, a hayrack and
breaking his knee.
Mr. and Mr«. J. W. Vaughan
returned late last week from a
two-week vacation trip which took
them to Amarillo, Texas. Accom­
panying them were their two
-daughters who stopped at Los
Angele« on the return. Mr. and
Mrs. Vaughan drove a new auto­
mobile on the return trip.
Mra. A. B. *illingberg received
a letter recently from her son,
Bill Hall, S2c, telling that he is
back in the states now after hav­
ing been at Saipan, Guam and
•Pearl Harbor. He spent the 4th
of July in Manila. He will be
hame September 12 for a 20-day
leave.

Rev. and Mrs. H. L. Russell
spent last week at Twin Rocks,
where the Young People’s Insti­
tute of the Nazarene church was
Mrs. Russell served as

dean of women and Mr. Russell
was camp carpenter ami elect ri-
cian. Barbara Brown was a dele-
gate from the Vernonia church.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Spencer were
informed Tuesday morning of the
death of Ed Higgins an uncle of
Mrs. Spencer and a former Ver­
nonia resident who will be re­
membered by local people who
have lived here for a number of
years. Mr. Higgins was living
near Portland at the time of his
death.

Mrs. Marie Thompson returned
to work at the West Oregon elec­
tric office Monday after complet­
ing her vacation.
Miss Dorothy Elliott of Sweet
Home has been visiting Mickey
Hall for the past two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Mes«ing
spent last week end at Hood Riv­
er at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Annala. Mrs. Annala is a
daughter of Mr. Messing. They
left here Saturday and returned

John Burnside w«« taken to
the Portland General hospital
early last week for a hernia oper­
ation from which he is recover­
ing satisfactorily.
Mrs. Burn-
side spent several days in Port-
land to be with him.
W. T. Lilley, who was taken
to the Good Samaritan hospital
last week with an injured back,
is now in a cast and is recovering
as well as can be expected. Mrs.
Lilley returned here Monday after
spending several days in Port-
land to be w.th him.

Tuesday after a two-week vaca­
tion trip spent at Boise, Fairfield,
Twin Falls and Gooding, Idaho,
where she visited friends and rela-
tives..
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Whitaker
and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rosa left
Tuesday morning for a few days

Sunday. The Bradleys being in­
terested in seeing the Pacific
again after working in the east
the past few months. The eastern
beaches proved to be the most
comfortable for bathing but as
they both are west coast products,
they still prefer (he west in every

from Huntington Park, California,
who are on an eight-week trailer
tour, were guests of the Edward
Salmonsens and the James Da­
vies several days this week.

Phillipsburg, Kansas, and Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Brady and family at­
tended the wedding of their niece,
Miss Una Brady of Forest Grove
to Henry Hinolk, also of Forest
Grove Sunday afternoon, Aug. 18.
The wedding took place at the
church at Hillside. Mr. and Mrs.
Hartsook left for their home

after visiting her brothers, Roy
Brady and Perl Brady of Forest
Grove. Other visitors at the Roy
Brady home ar., Mr. and Mrs.
John Peterson of North Platte,
Nebr., who surprised the Bradys
by arriving here last Thursday
evening. Roy and Perl Brady are
brothers of Mrs. Peterson. Dinner
guests of the Bradys Sunday in
addition to the Nebraska visitors
were Mr. and Mrs. Perl Brady
and Miss Elaine Brady of Forest
Grove, Miss Aretha Brady of Port­
land,, Mrs. Sylvia DeVaney and
daughter Janice, Vernonia, and
Wesley Brady of Portland.
