Alma (Grandma) Sitts recent- ly suffered a stroke but is bet- ter now. She wishes to thank those people who were so thought ful by sending her cards during her illness. Vernonia Cleaners Mrs. Walter Wagner and sons, Rissell and Richard, and a friend of Russell’s Ralph Lickletter of Minneapolis, Minn., spent the past week end at South Bend, Wash., visiting relatives and friends. Russell is home after 32 months overseas, 24 be ing spent in Enguand, one in France and seven in Germany with the 8th and 9th air forces. He plans to attend school at a later time. Visiting here last week end on a 72-hour pass was Cotton Bass. He is stationed now at Seattle. The meeting was held at Rainier and the prin cipal business was the discussion of HB80 which will be on the ballot this year. Mr. and Mrs. John $295 25c 25c 35c Injuries Result From Collision MIST—Lloyd Garlcck and Mr. Pierce were involved in a bad collision last week on the road to Jewell, by the Hopkins place. Lloyd was driving his tie truck and Mr. Pierce a car. When a spader came down in front cf Lloyd’s eye, and in brushing it away he swerved over on to Mr. Pierce’s side, sending the Pierce car over the bank. It was wrecked beyond repair. Mr. Pierce received a cracked neck and general shaking up. An- other man with him was also cut. Lloyd was also cut and his truck was damaged. Wayne Reynolds, Delmar Jones and a highway employe are “batching” in Shady Lane’s house. Minnie Hughes was a caller at the Dowling home Friday from Vernonia. She also called on Bud Murphys. Mrs. Fred Olin, Jr., was also present as were Mrs. Robert Olin, Mrs. Dan Olin, Mr. Manning and Mrs. Olin’s sister, Mrs. L. F. Dille. Sunday guests at the Walter Mathews home at M'st were Mr. and Mrs. C. Schreiber, Marion and Bob Schrieber and Delilah Condit, all of Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Clark and son, Danny, of Riverview. Mrs. Pearl Hull and Hazel Buck from Olympia, Wash., are visiting with their aunt and un cle, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mor gan, who have recently moved here from Hebo. The teachers attended a meeting in Portland. Loren Mills of Vernonia, was a visitor of his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bridgers, dur. ing the week end. Electricians were doing some work at the Roy Hughes home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Jones were Thursday evening callers at the Austin Dowling home. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kinsed and daughter were here from Roseburg Saturday night visiting the Wm. Bridgers. The Roy Stuvies will soon move to Birkenfeld or near there, where they have bought a home. Lloyd Beach moved down to the Jim Miller house in Bir kenfeld. He’s been staying with RoyHug hes since returning from the army.
