Setvicemen Honored At Sunday Dinner LET’S BE SOCIABLE Voiceless India Is Reviewed at Club The Vernopia Study club met Thursday evening, March 7 at the home of Mrs. Marvin Kamholz. Mrs. J. W. Nichols was in charge of the program for the evening and gave a very interest ing review of the book, “Voice less India,” by Gertrude Emer son. . The author of this book felt that the real India eluded her when she visited this huge coun try the first time, so.she returned and lived for a year in Five Trees, a village typical of the more than 700,000 collections of mud huts in which the larger proportion of the people of India live. Many advisors warned the visitor of the perils of her plan, but the villagers accepted her. One reason may have been her well - stocked and generously shared kit of medicines The principal explanation, however, must be looked for in the deep respect which possessed her for the lowly people among whom she made her home. The author takes the people unto herself in sickness and in health for better and for worse. Looked at from without, India presents a picture of bewildering diversity, geographical variety, many racial groups, different lev els of culture, different lan guages, caste segregation, pe culiar local customs and antag onistic religious beliefs. The next meeting of the club vzill be held at the home of Mrs. Fred J.. Tousley at which time Mrs. Ralph Valpiani will report on “Coming Age of Rocket Power” by G. E. Pendray. CAR SLUGGISH?
