McKinnon and daughter, Colette, and Miss Nina McDonald left January 8th for an extended airplane trip which t:ok them to Miami, Flor ida where they arrived the 20th and will remain for about two months. A recent card tells about swiaiming in the ocean and the acquiring of a suntan on the warm Florida beaches. It being close to Mrs. Sundland’s birth day it was celebrated. The Cir cle presented her with a clothes hamper and delicious cake for the occasion by Mrs. Knowles. Our former president resigned at the end of the year and Mrs. Jannette Sundland is the new one. Not very much business was tran acted and after a short meeting it adjourned with “God Bless America”. Our next meet ing will be the 4th Thurs. in Feb. at Hulda La Becks near Clats kanie. Lloyd Garlrck has been driving the grade school bus during the illness of Mrs. Ray Garlock, the regular driver. — Lloyd Beach wa an Asteria visitor Mon. on busmess. — A dance at Birken- feld Sat. nite for the Infantile Paralysis drive is scheduled for Mist and Birkenfeld district. Wilkerson and her son, Ensign Ben Wilkerson, spent last week end at Ti lamook at the Buford Wilkerson home. Buford was seriously ill with yel low jaundice but returned to teaching duties at the Tillamook high school Monday. He recently received a promotion fr.m ma jor to lieutenant colonel. McCauley. —• Mr. and Mrs. John Libel attended the funeral Ger- vices of the late Frank Birnbam in Portland lost week. — Mrs. Ray Garlock has been confined in bed with a severe case of rheumatism the past week cr STRATEGY NEEDED TO CARRY OUT SURPRISE EVENT RIVERVIEW—■ Under the able sponsorship of Mrs. Olof Jacob son and Mrs. Leonard Douberman a real surprise was staged at the Herman Wood homo Thurs. to let Mrs. Wood know she was having a birthday anniversary. As Mrs. Wocd had decided to pay two long promised visits that day (to two of the invited par ties) it took some quiet, laugh able strategy to bring about a successful surprise but ‘All’s well that ends well!’ At 3:30 all were invited to the dining room where en elegantly laid table was awaiting. After investigating her gift packages, Mrs. Wood cut two large cakes which were served with ice cream and ccf- fee. Guests were Mesdames Ellen Beacom, Birdie Higley, Grace Peachey, Tri’la Anderson, Dess Rundell, Julia Wirtz, Amelia Huntley, Mattie Jacobson and Shirley Douberman. Many happy returns were wished Mrs. Wood by her guests. Mr. and. Mrs. Dale Smith of Tyer, Tex. were recent visitors at the homes of Mrs. Smith’s aunts, Mrs. E. L. Lloyd and Mrs. Bu<^ Rose. Mr. Smith had just been discharged from service at Camp Fannon near Tyler. He was a band boy while in the service and went from here to Lewiston, Idaho where he will be a mem ber of a college band. Mr. and Mrs. Ora Cockrill spent Sat. with Mrs. Olive Powell in V<rnonia, who is nursing a badly sprained ankle as the re sult of a fall. James Bonnick. Evening guests were Mr. and Mrs. Darrell De- Vaney and Mrs. Ann Wester- berg. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph DeVaney and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell De Vaney and daughter spent the week end in Portland with the Verl DeVaney family.
