6 Thursday, August 30, 1945 Gym Floor Resurfaced The Vernonia high school gym. nasi urn floor is being resurfaced for use with the school year •to start September 10. Several coats of old varnish and paint were removed with an ammonia solution and mechanical scubbing brushes before the new surface was applied. Taylor and children returned Sat. from Seattle after a three-day visit with Mrs. Taylor’s mother, Mrs. Kennedy. On Tues, of last week George Davis entered the Coffee Mem orial hospital in Portland for observation and treatment. Mrs. Davis was down to see him on Thurs. His mother, who has been visiting here, returned to Till- amook Sun. Mrs. Bertha Wirtz, who has been employed by the Columbia Aircraft Industries in Portland until four days after the Japan ese surrender, was an over-night guest Fri. at the J. A. Wirtz home. Like thousands of other war production workers, Bertha spent last week in search for peacetime employment. On Wed. she started work at the Case- Swayne Cannery in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. James Morgan and children, Darrel and Sharron, of Portland who were vacation ing at Seaside spent Fri. p.m. at the Olof Jacobson home. Farrell disclosed today. The registration at the end of July thus showed an increase of 3,400 vehicles. Of the total of 408,406 ve hides registered in Oregon, 322,- 671, or 79 per cent are private passenger cars, Las^ year this same time, there were 323,543 passenger cars registered in the state. Registration fees for the seven months this year totaled $3,454,- 443.07, compared to $3,345,292 a year ago.
