Brady, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brady, was inside his company’s outpost when it was attacked by a whistle-controlled German patrol on the Fifth Army front in northern Italy recently according to a news dispatch from the 5th army public relations head quarters, Italy. Member of the 6th Armored Infantry Battalion, Brady was asleep after a tour of guard duty. He was awakened by a bazooka shell which hit the house shortly after the end of a 50-round mortar barrage. Brady heard a whistle blow twice and each time another bazooka round was fired at the building. He grabbed his rifle and ran to a window to help fight off the Nazis, who with- dréw at another blast on the whistle after a short battle. “It was a terrible experience while it lasted,” Brady said. “I didn’t sleep the jest of the night because I thought they might come back.” A graduate of Vernonia high school, he worked for the Oregon American Lumber corporation be fore entering the army. Here Monday Night Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Washburn were here to spend Monday night at the A. L. Kullander’s while oh their return to Astoria after being in Salem where they had made arrangements to return to their home. Here from Springfield Mrs. Ora Wilcox, mother of Mrs. Wallace McCrae, spent from Wednesday of last week to Mon day of his week at the McCrae home. The visitor’s home is in Springfield.
