A Major Calamity Rona Morris Workman Rocking W Ranch I’ve been ill and in bed for three days. That may not sound very serious to some folks but for me to go to bed ill is almost a major calamity. I learned long ago that it is far easier to stay on my feet and battle it out than to give up and go to bed where my family can go to work on me. I had only a cold and a cough this time, but a stranger watch ing the actions of the household would have leaped to the con clusion that I had both feet in the grave and the sexton was waiting with the first shovel ful of dirt. I am sure, most of the time, that my family loves me, but when I get ill I begin to have a few doubts. This time I was practically convinced that their one idea was to rush me into another world—and fast. The Big Bos, the type of hus band who expresses his worry by scolding, let out hoarse growls of rage and fury, tore off to a drug-store and bought every- thing from horse liniment to sheepdip and started in on me. The Daughter-of-the-House helped (I’ll remember that the next time she gets sick.) I was rubbed with everything the drugstore suggested plus a few things— judging from the smell—that shouldn’t be used on a sheep that was affected with scabies, rabies and hoof and mouth disease. I was dosed with aspirin and cold pills and anything else they could find that was lying around loose and unlabeled in the med icine chest, and if I dared open my mouth to protest, one or the other rushed at me with a speon- ful of cough medicine. The only stuff around here they didn’t give me—so far as I can dis cover—was KowKare and some dope I give the pigs for worms. They would have gotten around to those I suppose if I had stayed in bed another day. No, it isn’t safe to be sick around those two. There have been times in the past pear or two when I have felt that I would gladly break a leg if I could thus get a chance to stay in bed for a month. I thought it would be a fine opportunity to read all the books I never have time for and maybe would get caught up with my corres pondence, but never again will I MORE for Your Money It is no secret that KING’S MARKET gives you more for your money. Eggen, mileage rationing rep resentative, not to change the endorsement on their present gasoline coupons when they get their new motor vehicle regis tration stickers. They are instruc ted to leave the old license num ber endorsements “as is” on pres ent coupons as service station op erators may not accept coupons on which endorsements have been altered, Eggen emphasized. Motorists in Southwestern Washington who will receive new 1945 license plates instead of stickers, and those out of state motorists now in Oregon who ob tain license plates, are also ad vised not to chrfnge the license number already endorsed on their coupons. These motorists should change their book cover or iden tification folder of present cou pons by drawing a line lightly through the old license plate number above or below. Also, the license number should be changed on the mileage rationing record which all motor ists got from their local Boards with their coupon book. These changes should be made in ink, jndelible pencil or by typewriter.
