Regulations of Shoe Stamps Told Following word last week from the national OPA shoe rationing division that no change will be made in the current shce reg ulations affecting the validity dates of airplane stamps 1, 2, and 3 in ration book three, Glen E, Fox, Portland district OPA shoe rationing representative, said this means that at least 30 days will be given to the public before any current shoe stamps will be terminated. Present OPA shoe rationing regulations make this provision, he pointed out. Fox said that the statement from Washington was made “aft er a careful survey of the shoe supply situation throughout the country,” This announcement should ease the local buying situation by as suring both the shoe trade and their customers that all out standing shoe stamps can and will be honored, Fox declared. In other words, private timber land owners here in Ore gon are aiming at creating a crop from our forest lands so that our sawmills, plywood plants and other wood using industries will be supplied with a steady flow of merchantable timber for ever. Timber is a crop and it grows on tree farms. The millions of acres of timber land here in the greatest timber state cf the un ion are rapidly being transferred from wild forest status to a managed forest area. We have the most ideal climate in the world to grow trees big and tall and fast. We believe as an indus try that we are on the right track economically. We propose to so handle our forest lands that they will continuously produce wood. DRAFT DODGERS; Capt. Jim my Rusow, R. A. Ward Ingram, President Willamette Valley Lumberman’s Association. Of vital importance to this timber and lumber using nation of ours of course is the ever pres ent question— “What about our timber supply?” Speaking for western Oregon where approximately 281 billion feet of merchantable timber stands today, forming the great est single body of virgin, old- growth saw-timber in the United States, the outlook for a perma nent and continuous supply of sawlcgs is exceedingly bright. Most significant supporting fact for this statement is the policy of forest management be ing applied to more and more thousands of acres of private- owned timber land every year. Already two million acres in the Douglas fir region of western Oregon and Washington are under intensive forest management. Stated in unscientific terms, GRAY HAIR? ZOOT SUITERS; Capt.
