Correspondent Writes Of Recent Events at Natal and Vicinity NATAL — Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Lindsay had as Xmas dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Noble Dun lap, Mrs. Mary Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lindsay. Lincoln Peterson drove to St. Helens and spent Xmas day with his sister. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Banzer had for Xmas guests Mr. and Mrs. Fred Busch, Chancey Whittic and Pete and John Banzer. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Eastman spent Xmas day with their son, Dell, and family. Mary Jane Dass was out from Portland from Fri. till Tues. in- eluding Xmas. Bernice Dass left Fri. eve. the 29th for Portland to report at the army center. Mrs. Dass and Eleanor went into Portland Sat. morning to be with Bernice until she left for Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Dave McMullen had as Sun. before Xmas dinner guests their daughter, Mrs. Jack Dowd, and family. Mrs. Marian Dickey and husband, and Mrs. Marie Bensen and Robert, and Jimmie McMullen. An X-ray unit of this type will visit Columbia County sometime early in 1945, accord- ing to present plans, to provide chest X-rays for workers, school children, and others who wish to have such tests made. To fi nance the visit of this unit, the county's Christmas seal quota has been set at $4.000 this year. Ex tra seals have been sent to about one-fourth of those on the coun ty mailing list to help reach this goal. Ceiling prices now in effect on used passenger cars and trucks will be continued, Ernest J. Klein, district OPA automo tive price specialist, announced today in order to keep the mar ket stocked with the largest in ventory that restricted produc tion will permit. Such an inven tory, Klein pointed out, is vital ly needed in the war emergency to maintain transportation of war workers and goods and equip ment required for war and essen tial civilian use. Prices on used cars continue until July 1, 1945, and on used commercial vehicles through the calendei- year 1945. It had been previously an nounced that used xar ceiling prices would, be reduced by. 4 per cent each six-month period and ceilings on used commercial motor vehicles were to be dropped to the next older mod el year ceiling price at the begin ning of each new year, Klein said. In two other changes to the used car regulation, foreign used cars (except those manufactured in Canada and Mexico) are ex empt from coverage. The OPA may authorize prices for used cars that cannot be priced under other provisions of the regula tions.
