This rigging seems naval to a G. I. infantryman. But what can a
fellow do when he breaks a leg in a jump and then takes a load of
shells from a mortar when he’s down? Pvt. John F. Maxon, 2^,
Buffalo, N. Y., paratrooper, says you just take it, and thank your
lucky stars you wind up in a comfortable bed back home. You thank
those stars, too, for War Bonds that get you back into circulation.

Staff Sergeant Ira Vaughn took his dose and left the Tight at St. Lo,
France. The 23-year-old infantry sergeant from San Antonio, Texas,
came out with a broken arm but stout heart. A sniper in a hedgerow
saw him first. It would have been too bad for the sniper if things
had been reversed. And it will be too bad for all the Nazis and Nips
if people buy War Bonds the way Sergeant Vaughn says they should.
Michael L. Susan, Aliquippa, Pa.,
PEC, was an outpost at Anzio
Beach, Italy, when hit by a shell.
It looks as the ugh the 20-year-o!d
Michael is out of the fighting for
good, but he is still able to give
strong sales talks for War Bonds.

Home Waterproof
Method Explained
A simple home treatment for
waterproofing cotton gabardine
and other firmly woven cotton
materials is described by Miss
Lucy Lane, extension specialist in
clothing and textiles at O.S.C.
The garment to be treated is
first placed in luke warm soap
suds made with a good neutral
soap. After
it is
thoroughly
soaked in this, the garment is
squeezed free of excess water and
soap, then put in a solution made
with two ounces of potash alum
for each gallon of water, After
the garment soaks in this thor-
oughly, it is squeezed out and
hung to dry without rinsing, but
qlways on a rope clothesline rath
er than a metal one.
Children’s play clothes and
jackets treated in this manner
give added protection, although
they must be treated after each
washing.

An old European practice for
saving wear on heels and toes
of stockings has been revived
and recommended for use in this
country by USDA research peo
ple, reports Miss Lucy Lane, ex
tension specialist in clothing and
textiles at O.S.C.
The practice consists of rub
bing paraffin or candle wax cn
the proper laundering of the
stockings, nor will it change their
appearance, Miss Lane reports.

Vie Ennis has been mustered
out of the service due to reach-
ing the age limit and returned
home a few days ago. He plans
to establish a watch repair bus
iness in Hllsboro as soon as ar
rangements can be made.
