FURLOUGH
KEASEY — Carrol Keasey,
from Bakersfield, Cal. came home
Tuesday on a furlough and will
be here till the last of the month.
CORPORAL MARRIED
KEASEY — CpI. Albert Krie­
ger, Jr. and Doris Stevenson
were married Dec. 15th at Van­
couver and he left the following
day to return to his station in
Texas.
IN PARIS
In a letter sent to Wallace
McCrae and received this week,
Cpl. Robert Roeser, former high
school student, expresses sur­
prise about the city of Paris
which he had visited. He men­
tions that many articles were in
evidence there that are not ob­
tainable here and that the people
are well dressed as a general
rule.
WEATHER COLD
Cpl. Lewis Adams has written
about Northern Italy stating that
the weather is so cold that he
wears his lined flying suit for
sleeping in order to keep warm.
VALUABLE WOOD RECEIVED
Two bundles of teak wood
were received here within the
last few days by Emil Messing
from Tom Bateman who is now
stationed in Hollandia. If obtain­
able and purchased in this coun­
try, the wood would cost about
$45, it was setimated. It, along
with other wood that Tom has
sent previously, will be used by
Mr. Messing to build a desk.

ATTENDING SCHOOL
Thurman L. De Hart, S2c,
was here in Vernonia over the
week end visiting his wife and
daughter, and friends. He is at­
tending fire control school at
Seattle, Wash., and will be sta­
tioned there for two or three
months until his training is com­
plete.
DAVE HOWARD HERE
Lt. Dave Howard of the Army
Air Corps was in Vernonia and
Wilark Saturday on a short
leave following a test flight
made from Victorville, Califor­
nia, where he is stationed, to
Portland.

County committeemen to ad­
minister the 1945 agricultural
conservation program for Colum­
bia county, were elected at the
annual county convention held in
the AAA office at St. Helens,
December 11.
W. C. Johnson of Mist was re­
elected county chairman. Others
named included the following:
J.G. Watts, Scappoose, vice-chair­
man; 0. E. Larson, Yankton,
regular member; Wm. Armstrong,
Marshland, first alternate; C. L.
Wilburn, Rainier, second alter­
nate; George A. Nelson, secre­
tary; Mrs. IVivian Mankins, St.
Helens, treasurer.
Committeemen elected to ad­
minister the program in the Ne­
halem Valley are: Joe Banzer,
Mist, chairman; Oscar Weed,
Vernonia, vice-chairman; Clyde
Henderson, Mist, regular member.

Beard Hours Changed
In order to establish uniform
opening hours throughout the
district the Vernonia war price
and rationing board office will
be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Monday through Friday. The
board officers will close at the
usual time Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
The change will be effective be­
ginning January 1, 1945.
Clippings Shown
Ed Sessman has been exhibit­
ing a clipping telling of the find­
ing of Noah’s Ark by a group of
Russian airman and he has the
clipping available for • anyone
wishing to see it. The article was
taken from a Seattle paper and
explains the circumstances which
led to finding the ancient boat.
