Thursday, November 9, 1944 Vernonia Eagle Army Air Forces Gunners Practice Night Firing on Starlit Range in Texas Classified Ads... Business Directory IN MEMORIAM Metol-clad lightning wings its way to the targets as Army Air Forces gunners practice night firing on the range in Texas. Tracers came so fast from so many machine guns that at times one could read a newspaper in the light. The .30-caliber machine guns shown here shoot 1,200 rounds a minute. Young men of seventeen should visit the nearest Air Forces Examining Board or U. S. Army Recruiting Station to obtain information about enlisting in the Air Corps Enlisted Reserve. They will not be called to active duty until after they become eighteen years of age. TOWN and FARM in WARTIME Prepared by OFFICE OF WAR INFORMATION FARMERS-RANCHERS TO GET MORE GUNS New shotguns and rifles for farmers, ranchers and law en forcement agencies are on the way, the WPB announced recent ly. Production of 495,000 shot guns and rifles has been author ized, but it takes from three to six monthj to turn out such fire arms. “start digging,” was the advise a German radio speaker recently gave to men and women living along the West Wall, as reported by the FCC. The speaker said that while the German word, “Schanzen”, which means to dig trenches and build earthworks, “smells of sweat and toil,” it is “fine and manly” and “healthy exercise”. DANES BID RELUCTANT FAREWELL TO GERMANS TIME TO “START DIGGING” “Shelve everything else” and DEPENDABLE AUTO Body and fender work, refinishing, mo tor maintenance. Lengthen the life of your car with LEE’S service! Lee's Motor Sales and Service a When the Germans moved armed forces into Denmark, the Danes received them reluctantly. When the Germans, pressed on several fixmts, tried to remove these forces, the Danes let them go the same way. One German division is said to have been de layed 16 days. On a freight train departing from Copenhagen, Dan-' ish saboteurs forced the crew to stop the train and disconnect four cars belonging to the Ger man Army, before the train was allowed to continue its journey. In other cases the saboteurs ma chine-gunned and bombed German trains.
