Leaving for Florida Mrs. Kate Hoffman plans to leave Sunday for St. Petersburg, Florida, where she will be for several months with Major and Mrs. Donald O. Tower. School Opening Date Sept. 11 MIST — Walt Batson and Ber nard Dowling were in Portland Mon. taki- g the Mathews Bros, truck in for some repairs. Mrs. G. Galeton, the school jan itor, has been getting the school house and property ready for the opening of school the 11th. Mr. and Mrs. Edleman and daughter from Portland visited her sister, Mrs. L. E. McGee, during the week end. The C. O. Haydens were in Portland Sun. visiting her parents. Arthur Seifkin visited his sis ter, Mrs. Donald Sundland over the week end. Freddy Busch, another of our young men , has entered the U. S. Navy. Freddy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Busch, have a large farm down across the river and it was there young Freddy has spent his entire life, grad uating last year from the Ver nonia high school. Miss Bettine Mathews and Mrs. LaVerne Nelson were ex pected at the Mathews’ home over the week end from Port land. Mrs. Nelsop was formerly LaVerne Ronbaugh, a teacher here and lived on the “Burn.” Mr. and Mrs. Ralph George and Gloria were tracing in the village Saturday. Mr .and Mrs. William Bridgers and the Carl Enneberg family were Seaside visitors during the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Scott were Tues, morning shoppers here. Sawdust.. It may be a little early td start electioneering for the No- vember election but that is the intimation brought out by the return here last week of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Condit from Cal ifornia. Herb mentioned some time ago that he was going to “run” for the office of mayor of Riverview. His return brings out the possibility that he may have returned in order to pre pare his campaign in advance in order to have the "drop” on any other candidates that may decide to seek the office . . . Mr. and Mrs Joe Rossier are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby girl at the Clatskanie hos pital Aug. 18. The little lady has been named Gail Pauline. Her father is a navy man and is at Farragut, Idaho. A small fire was started Sun. plresumably from a cigarette, in back of the Art Grenfelt beer parlor but was extinguished quickly after it burned over sev eral feet of grass. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sund land were down from Portland Sun. Mr. Sundland doing some work cn the wireing at the school house. Frankie Checmoneck of the USN' was heme over the week end from his post at Astoria. Mrs. Charles Sundland was a Sun. afternooft guest of Mrs. A. Dowling. Henry Kleiber was in Clats kanie Sat. eye. The Garlocks are baling their hay this week. Pioneer Picnic Attended Sun. NATAL — Vernon Paterson Returned home from Silver Creek camp Sun. eve. where he has been for the past week. Ruth Wells Shermer came from Newport last Wed. and vis ited with Mrs. Steers and Mrs. V. W. Berg until Sat. afternoon. Bill Pringle, Sr. and Ira Pet erson attended the Columbia county pioneer picnic at Hudson Sunday. Mrs. Mary Peterson visited with her daughter, Mrs. R. S. Lindsay, Mon. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pringle, Jr. were in Portland last week hav ing dental work done. Mrs. I. J. Dass took Jeanette back to Portland Wed. to see the doctor.
