Word Received Of Air Battle TIMBER—Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shipley received word last week that their youngest son was shot down over Northern Sardinia June 18 while returning from a bombing mission. Quite a battle ensued near San Pietro Island off Southwestern Sardinia. On the way back from target the plane was apparently attacked by an ME 109. Appraently his throttles were shot u|J as he was unable to reduce his speied. and was forced to fall out of forma tion. An ME 109 peeled off from about 18,000 feeit and dove at the plane which was above and to the left of the bomber formation at about 11,000 feet.
