Tentative Regulations
Following is a summary of the
proposed regulations tentatively
formulated by the game commis­
sion at its hearing held Satur­
day, June 10:
DEER
General Season
October 1 to 31, open season
for blacktail and mule deer hav­
ing not less than fojrked horns.
Bag limit, one.
Grant Baker area— Female, spike
buck or Immature Deer.
3,000 tags to be issued to
take female or immature deer
in the following described area:
Beginning at Mt. Vernon, east
along highway No. 28 to the Un­
ity reservoir, thence north along
forest road through Whitney and
Sumpter to Granite, thence north
and west from Granite along for­
est road through Trout Meadows
and Forks Guard station to Dale,
then south along highway No.
395 to the point of beginning.
Hart Mt. Refuge Deer Season
October 7 to 15 in specified
portion of refuge. 300 doe deer
and 200 buck deer tags to be is­
sued.
ELK
General Regulation*
November 4 to 30, open sea­
son entire state except as here­
inafter specified.
November 4 to 14, in Clatsop,
Columbia, Lincoln, Benton, Coes
and that part of Line and Doug­
las counties west of highway 99.
Closed to elk hunting: Tilla­
mook and Curry counties.
Bag limit: one bull elk having
antlers except that bag limit is
one elk of either sex in area in
southeastern Oregon bounded by
highways 28, 97 and 62.
Special Tage for Antlerle*s Elk
500 tags will be issued to take
antlerless elk from November 4
to 30 in the followng described
area: Beginning at the Oregon-
Washington line north of Milton,
south on highway No. 11 to Pen­
dleton, thence south along high­
way No. 30 to LaGrande; thence
north along highway No. 82 to
Elgin, north from Elgin* along
the Grande Rondo river to the
Washington state line and west
along the state line to 'the point
of beginning.
PHEASANTS
October 14 to October 18:
Clatsop, Columbia, Multnomah,
Clackamas, Washington and Yam­
hill counties. Bag limit, 3 cocks
a day, 6 in possession.
1945, both dates inclusive.
Fisher, marten, beaver and
ringtailed cat: closed season en­
tire year.
MIGRATORY WATERFOWL
Subject to federal regulation.
SILVER GRAY SQUIRRELS
Open season: September 15 to
October 20, inclusive, in all coun­
ties except that the open season
is the entire year in Multnomah,
Clackamas,
Marion,
Yamhill,
Washington, Benton, Polk, Linn,
Douglas and Lane counties; and
except that there is no open sea­
son in Hood River county.
GAME RESERVES OPEN TO'
HUNTING
The following game reserves
will be open to hunting during
the regular open seasons for
game birds and game animals:
Salt Creek game refuge; Mule
Deer game reservation; Mt. Em­
ily game reservation;
Myrtle
Park game reservation; Steens
mountain game refuge; Cow
Creek game refuge; Whitetail
Deer game reservation; Grass
Mountain reservation; Ochoco
game refuge; that part of Warn­
er game refuge lying outside of
the boundaries of the federal
Hart mountain antelope reserve;,
and Canyon Creek game refuge,
provided, however, that that part
of the Canyon Creek game re­
fuge lying east and north of Can­
yon Creek is reserved for hunt­
ing by use of the long bow and
broad arrow only.
The Wallowa Mountain Sheep
refuge will be open to the hunt­
ing of migratory waterfowl dur­
ing the regular open season
therefor.

game birds or game animals.
It is unlawful to use shot­
guns loaded with buck shot or
bird shot to hunt or kill any
big game.
It is unlawful to Use rifles to
hunt or kill any upland game
birds such as pheasants, grouse,
quail or Hungarian partridge.
It is unlawful to use shotguns
capable of holding more than
three shells to hunt or kill any
upland game birds such as pheas­
ants, grouse, quail and Hungar­
ian partridge, O|r migratory game
birds such as ducks, geese, etc.
