Mrs. Taggart is living in Tigard at present. The Vernonia high school Log gers broke even in last week’s games. On Wednesday night they ran rough shod over the Wheeler high school team in the coast city 43 to 15. Friday night the powerful Rainier Columbians spoiled the Loggers’ home com- INSTRUCTOR He expects to be at th»t camp for about a year. Virgil and his wife spent a 14-day furlough in New York City. Led by their six - foot three - inch forward, Smith, who led all scorers with 16 points, the Rainiers pulled quickly away and left the floor at half time with a comfortable lead. IHIUCE The opening league game found both teams driving at break-neck speed as coaches Munger and Robbins substituted freely to maintain the pace. The inexperienced Loggers fought for every point and continued to show improvement in team play in their first teste of league competition. The baby Loggers lost a stir ring battle with the Rainier sec onds in the last seconds of the game when a Columbian mid- cocrt shot broke a 15 to 15 tie to win 17 to 15. Tuesday night the local squad journeys to Scappoose to play the Indians and returns to the local court for a doubleheader against the St. Helens Lions Fri day night. MIATLISS BIAN SOUP 1*/2 cup* dried beans 1 cup coarsely chopped onion cup thinly sliced celery 2 tbsps. shortening • cups water 1/2 tsps, salt •4 tsp. dry mustard tsp. thyme 'A tap. pepper 2 tsps, vinegar Pick over and wash the beans. Saute onion and celery in hot melted shortening in heavy 4-qt. kettle un til limp but not brown. Add beans and water, cover. Cook slowly until beans are mushy (about 3 hours). Mash beans. Add seasonings and vinegar Serve garnished with egg or lemon slices. (Can serve 6.) 2 tbsps. drippings 1'/2 cups cooked 3 tbsps. flour flaked fish 4 cups milk I’/j cup* thinly */2 to 1 tsp. salt sliced celery tap. onion salt 2 cups whole kernel corn Make white sauce. Meh drippings, blend in flour, add milk gradually and cook until thickened. Add re maining ingredients and heat well.
