Civilian Drivers Congratulated “Civilian drivers in Oregon are to be congratulated on their* spirit of cooperation with army authorities in avoiding traffic accidents in the maneuver area, Farrell declared. “Accidents in volving military personnel con stitute tragic interference with the army training program in this state. It is fortunate in deed, that civilian drivers un derstood this danger and drove accordingly.” While the intensive maneuv- ers are over for this year, the Oregon secretary of state re minds drivers that there are smaller maneuvers in various parts of the state in connec tion with the army training program. He urged drivers to observe regulations when driv- ing in the vicinity of army camps, particularly with regard to the 35-mile wartime speed limit. Director Federal Bureau of Investigation I SALUTE THE FLAG I salute the flag! This I deem not an act of worship, but a mark of becoming respect for the noble principles to which our founding fathers dedicated their lives; namely a free press, freedoirf*’ of speech and the in alienable right to worship God according to the dictates of con science. These heaven-born ideals of just and equitable government, vouch-safed in the federal constitution, have built and maintained our great Amer ican democracy—to the wonder and amazement of teeming mil lions— ■so that these United States rank without a peer in the history of nations. Here on the home front we’re all working hard to bring Vic tory closer, and we have the deep satisfaction of seeing that work be ginning to bear fruit. It’s quite proper and fitting that we should observe the hallowed occasion of Thanksgiving Day by preparing something out of the ordinary for a special meal. But we need not be extravagant. There are dozens of little tricks that will turn an otherwise ordinary dinner into something very like a feast. 14c 13c 10c 12c Apple Sauce (14) No. 2 16c Libby’s Cranberry See Conway (8) 12% oz 17c Cucumber Pickles 24 oz 24c Heinz Green Tom Slices No 2% 25c Libby’s Ripe Olives, ex Ige pint 24c Lindsay Dressing, Duchess 8-oz jr 13c Knox Gelatine 1-oz pkg 19c Tuna, Wave Kist (5) 2% 27c Bread Jul Lee Wri l’/^lb 12c Hi Ho Crackers 1-lb pkg 21c Graham Crackers 2 lb 33c Post Toasties 11-oz pkg 12c Cake Flour, Swndn Ige 28c Drifted Snow Fir 25 lb $1.19 Fisher’s Blend Fir 24 lb $1.19 Shortening, Crisco (5) lb 25c Shrtning, Roy Sat (5) lb 22c Margarine, 1-lb pkg (6) 22c Dalewood ¿Pafetcay ijuaianfeed d/ Join, Husband Car Owners to Register for 1944 WARNING i ít Portland ii\ Vernonia Eagle Fresh Oysters da fete a y d-atm pint 65c deduce I Buy Your Potatoes Now Celery — Cabbage Lettuce — Squash Turnips — Cauliflower Carotts — Onions Peppers — Pumpkin Cocoanut — Tomatoes 50 lb. bag No. 2 98c 1OO lb. bag No. 1 $3.09 25 lb.
