Regulations Given
The regulations, which will be ob­
served by all vehicular traffic after
dark, within those posted
areas
where headlamps are visible 'from
the sea. follow:
(1) No vehicle shall operate dur­
ing the night hours between sunset
and sunrise with more than two
lighted driving lamps, regardless of
;he direction of travel.
(2) Each lamp shall provide a
maximum of not more than 250
beam candle-power.
(3) Speed shall be reduced in
accordance with Oregon's basic rule
which is, in effect, that a vehicle

should obtain registers for their
headlamps which can be installed
at a nominal cost by any garage,
enabling the driver to reduce the
light intensity by means of a dash
switch. Diagrams of such devices
may be < btained from the State

Washington, D. C., Aug. 10.—Henry Morgenthau, Jr.,
Secretary of the Treasury, today announced the Au­
gust War Bond Quotas for the 3,0’0 counties in the na­
tion totalling §315,000,000.
The August quota for the State of Oregon is
$8,750,000.
In arriving at the county quotas for August, as shown
in the above map, the Treasury Department took into

lin or other suitable cloth of a
grade comparable to flour sack ma­
terial. (Handkerchiefs could be used
in emergency) The . cloth can be
tied about an old-style headlamp
or can be wedged into place with
a knife on new-type sealed beam
headlamps. Parking lamps in lieu
of headlamps should not be used
except when headlamps can not be
dimmed pursuant to the restriction
order.

mation No. 10 issued recently by
Lieut. Gen. John L. DeWitt, Com­
manding General of the Western
Defense Command and Fourth Ar­
my, the Oregon State Defense
Council has established regulations
governing vehicular lights on those
portions of Oregon highways where
they may be visible from the sea.
The Oregon State Highway Com­
mission has completed the posting of
signs along 150 miles of light re­
striction zones, chiefly Highway 101
cautioning motorists to “dim” their
lights and reduce speed on entering
dim-out areas. Cooperation of ci­
vilian defense agencies with the
Oregon State Police in the enforce
re-
ment of these regulations is
quested. Within military zones, I, mil-
itary personnel will report all vi-
clations on the part of civilians to
local civilian defense officials.
