Henry Oleen, St. Helens, Ore. .< INGRESSION AL MEDAL OF HONOR This, the highest decoration awarded by the U. S. Govern ment, can be i^iven to any officer or enlisted man of the United States Army who shall “in action involving actual conflict with an enemy distinguish himself con spicuously by his gallantry and intrepedity at the risk of his life, above and beyond the call to duty.” It was first authorized by act of Congress in 1862, and pre sented “in the name of Con gress”; hence the frequent allu sion to it as the “Congressional Medal.” The present design was adopted in 1904. A bronze five-pointed star, surrounded by a laurel wreath in green enamel, sus pended by two links from a bronze bar bearing the inscription “Valor,” and surmounted by an eagle. In the center of the star is the head of Minerva surrounded by the inscription “United States of America.” Each ray of tha star bears an oak leaf in green enamel. On the reverse of the medal is engraved the name of the recipient. It may be worn with a neck band. The ribbon is of light blue watered silk. Midway 14 Foods Available Food Stamp Users between the neckband and on the ribbon supporting the medal are 13 white stars arranged 1a the form of a triple chevron. The foods available during March to 32,958 persons taking part in the food stamp program in Oregon "vere announced laat week by Lin coln P. Bloomfield, Acting Area Supervisor. The blue stamp foods listed are those obtainable by stamp program participants during March at local food stores. Pork has been removed from the list for March because of the sharp advance in prices in the past few weeks. Eggs, however, will continue en the list and will offer a readily available substitute for meat during a time of year when egg product ion is heavy and prices decline seasonally. With the exception of this change, the blue s'amp foods for March are the same as those listed for February. The complete list of blue stamp foods, as issued by the Sur plus Marketing Administration for the period March 1 through March 31 in all stamp program areas, is as follows: shell' eggs, butter,, fresh grapefruit, pears, apples, oranges, and fresh vegetables (including po tatoes), corn meal, dried prunes, hominy (corn) grits, dry edible beans, whe^it flour, enriched wheat flour, and whole wheat (Graham) flcur. nonia, Oregon. 200 cords to be delivered at the Washington Grade School and 30 cords to be delivered to the Lincoln School.
