Olin ot this city, became the bride of William II. Manning at 7 p. m. Saturday, December 13, at the Trinity chapel in Portland. Reverend Kempton officiated. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gold-beige aiter- noon dress with brown accessorfes. Her corsage was an orchid. Mrs. Elwin Emmel of Portland was the attendant. Her afternoon oress was blue; she wore a garuc-nia corsage. Best man was brother of the groom, Phillip Manning, of Tacoma. A reception and dinner was held at the Heathman hotel, following the ceremony at which only rela tives and very close friends were present. White crysanthemums, calla lilies and candles were the table decorations. Mr. and Mrs. Manning are at home in Portland. The annual Christmas party of the Vernonia Business Women was held Tuesday night, December 18, at the home of Mrs. Walter Mat hews. During the lengthy business meeting the club members agreed to do their part toward national de fense. Those who had not yet sign ed for volunteer civil defense work signified their intentions to do so soon. The suggestion was made and agreed upon that the members will assist in Red Cross sewing and knitting if given the opportunity. The plaque to be given this year to the business firm exhibiting the most attractive window for Christ mas will be displayed at Kullander’s Jewelry store, it was announced. A doubt that many Vernonia mer chants are entering the contest was expressed. The reason given was that the blackout possibilities and the war dampened the enthusiasm expressed earlier.
