IS IT ANY WONDER THAT A CAR CAN, AND DOES, GET OUT OF ADJUSTMENT? The settings of important parts—distributor, carburetor, valves, etc.—gradually change. In fa^ct, so gradual is this change that the car owner is likely not to notice it at all. For instance, if a car lost one-half of one per cent of its economy and performance a week, this would be mighty hard to detect from day to day, but just the same, at the end of twenty weeks 10 per cent would have been lost. That loss becomes readily appar ent after a mechanic has properly re-tuned the motor. Periodic Tune-up Is an Economy, Not an Expense Vernonia Auto Co “A Safe Place to Trade” Vernonia, Oregon Motorcycle accidents and crashes involving two or more vehicles have caused greatest increases in traffic fatalities in Oregon so far this year, accident statistics compiled at the state traffic safety division disclos- ed. Motorcycle fatalities have increas- ed 200 per cent this year over acci dents of this type for the previous J ear. Fatalities involving two or more cars have increased 150 per cent. Pedestrian type accidents have shown the greatest improvement to date, the figures showed, Fatalities involving pedestrians are down 30 per cent. Bicycle fatalities are down 14 per cent and car-train fatalities are down eight per cent, All other types of fatal accidents are up this year. Accidents involving the collision of cars and fixed objects show an increase of 75 per cent while non collision accidents are up 39 per cent. Crashes involving two cars show an increase of 53 per cent. The traffic accident trend so far this year indicates a need for the exercise of greater care in driving on rural roads and in heavily con gested areas, it was said. Drivers in heavy traffic must be continu ally alert and they should hold their speed down to a rate that will permit a safe stop within the clear distance ahead. On rural roads, reduced speed at night and during inclement weather conditions are the great needs in reducing non-collision ac cidents and multiple-car mishaps, it was said.
