Thursday, Dec. 4, 1941, Vernonia Eagle, Vernonia, Oregon LET’S BE SOCIABLE Melvin Weed lakes Bride— At a simple ceremony read Sun day afternoon at Our Saviour’s Lutheran church in Everett, Wash ington, Miss Florence Lepisto, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Lepisto, of Everett became the bride of Melvin Weed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar G. Weed of this city. The rites were performed by Reverend Carl H. Norgaard before an alter decorated with large bas kets of white chrysanthemums. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white net bouf- f'.nt style dress; her veil was finger tip length. She carried a shower bouquet of talisman rosebuds, gar denias and white bouvardia. Her sister, Miss Linda Lepisto, maid of honor, wore light green trffeta; her bouquet was of rust chrysan- •hemums. Acting as best man for his brother was Oren Weed of Seaside. Ushers were Harry Sample of Ev erett and Howard Willard of Se attle. Following the reception held in the church parlor after the cere mony, Mr. and Mrs. Weed left for n short wedding trin. They will be at home at 1309 Aurora Avenue, Seattle. Mt’s. Hughes Reviews C^pch Novel Thursday— Mrs. A. J. Hughes reviewed “To Sing with the Angels” Thursday, November 27, at the meeting of the Vernonia Study club. The author, Maurice Hindus, a Russian by birth, gives in the novel', a picture of WE DON’T LIKE TO BRAG— But our pies are delic ious, for many people have told us so. We make them ourself. The plot concerns a single German family in a Czech village; the son becomes a Hitler agent, as a German police and his rela tions to his native village make a touching and at the same time re volting theme. At the meeting, held at the home of Mrs. E. H. Condit, Mrs. Ben Brickel and Mrs. Harry Culbertson were welcomed as new members. Roll call was given by each mem ber’s stating interesting facts about Czeeho-Slovakia. Mrs. Richard Fletcher will' be hostess on December 4 for the meet ing of the Club; Mrs. E. H. Condit will review "I Live on Air” by Schechter and Anthony. A favorite radio personality will be named for roll call. Christmas Party Held Monday Night— Members of the American Leg ion and of the Auxiliary with their guests for the evening enjoyed the annual Christmas party Monday night, December 1, at the Legion hall. A gift for a child or twenty-five cents was requested of each one present. The presents are sent to needy children. A hill-billy party was the theme cf the evening. Corn stalks, pump kins, squash and other vegetables decorated the hall. Music for the dancing was provided by the Bris- ette family. Three Initiated by Rebekah Lodge— The O. A. Bridge club were luncheon and bridge guests Wed- resday of last week of Mrs. Lee Caulfield who entertained in her home in Portland. Ladies winning prizes for the afternoon were Mrs. Lyman Haw ken, first; Mrs. A. J. Hughes, second; and Mrs. C. L. Anderson, low. Car Demolished In Accident MIST—Hugh Devine had a bad accident Monday night on the way to Vernonia when his car hit a stump, demolishing the car com pletely and inflicting cuts on the driver. The battery acid was spilled on his face and burned it very badly just below his eye. Week-end guests at the William Bridgers home were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mills and son, Loren, from Vernonia. Mrs. Newton Trotter and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Alvey Trotter, from Elsie were Wednesday guests of Mrs, Austin Dowling. Carl Ray spent the week-enu in Pendleton. W. R. Johnson has been feeling quite miserable for the past week or more. The preacher, Mr. Bram- blett, has been driving the high school bus for him. Mrs. Walt Batson’s parents spent last week-end here from Cornelius. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ashby and Willene spent a few days at the Bridger’s home last week. They are from Grand Ronde. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sundland spent Thanksgiving at Newberg with her parents. The Mist Helping Circle is very busy getting ready for its coming program on December 12th. A good program is promised under the dir ection of Mrs. George Jones. An apron sale, grab bag, games, supper and dancing are on the evening’s program. Sunday dinner guests of the Gar- lock family were Mr. and Mrs. Will'- ard Garlock and family and Miss Lois Louden from Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Bern Bliss and chil dren from Grand Ronde and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Garlock and two children. Miss Bernice Siegenthaler was at home during Thanksgiving week, f'om Bellingham. Washington, where she attends the Northwestern School of Commerce. Mrs. Elmore Knight, Mrs. Homer Gwin and Mrs. Nick Farnstrom were given the initiatory degree into the Rebekah Lodge last Thurs day evening, November 27. Doris Trotter from Elsie spent a few days recently with the Acie Trotter family on the Burn. The Mist Helping Circle will hold its Christmas dinner in the g.v..i kitchen the Sunday before Christ mas for the members and their families. Several of the L. Wikstrom chil dren have severe colds. Mrs. Roper visited with Mrs. N. Moses Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Ed Reynolds spent Thanks giving with her daughter, Hattie, at Tideport. Mrs. H. Kyle and Mrs. Tichenor from Jewel! recently spent a day visiting Mrs. George Jones. Bernard Dowling spent the week end in Portland. Mrs. George Jones called on Mrs. Dowling Tuesday afternoon.
